It all depends on whether you're going through the whole PGCE/BEd route which is university based with teaching practice etc. Or if you want to go for the school based SCITT or GTTP route, which is where you're based in school from day one and train on the job while getting paid at an unqualified teacher status. This was the route I took - it was hard, very very hard but well worth it in the end. It all also depends on whether you're going to train to teach primary (4-11) or secondary (11-18).
