Possibly moving to Calgary next year from UK. Any advice?

Will be going to visit Calgary and Banff in Sept, hopefully will have some interviews lined up by then. Don't want to waste time while there, can you give any advice on best places to look at in connection with living and working? Would especially appreciate replies from anyone who has moved there fairly recently. Where would be the nicest / best value places to live in that area?Possibly moving to Calgary next year from UK. Any advice?

well calgary is very big, busy and expensive, i also moved from england to canada and its hard to start a new life without knowing anyone and not having family, i work for yankee, and i got transferred from calgary to saskatoon
Snow,dont go.
It seems like lots of people moving to Calgary....there are many oil jobs for you but it's very expensive for the house and very difficult to find an apartment. I hate morning traffic. Vancouver Island is better for sure!
just hve fun and enjoy it way better skys than da uk!
i live in calgary and the best places are the stampede which takes place from june-september and calaway park its a bit far but its a great amusement park=)

also i love going to the rocky mountains there great and they have awesome restaurants here like olive garden and stuff
i live here in Calgary and its insanely expensive but there are plenty of jobs that pay good. if you wanna start looking for jobs online there is this site www.jobbank.gc.ca and a good place to look for houses is www.rentfaster.com...

good luck. i hope you find what your looking for
Move to Vancouver, it was ranked the #1 best place in the world to live
I don't know about working since you didn't tell us the field you are in, but as far as living, the farther away from downtown you live, the nicer it is. Calgary is way to big a city for me, but an area I fell in love with is called MacKenzie Town. Everything is fairly expensive as far as housing is concerned, but this area is like a little town within a city. Everything you need (practically) is a 5 minute drive away. Grocery stores, hardware stores, barbers, doctors, restaurants, pubs....everything is in this little area. I dated a guy who lived in this area, and if I ever was to move directly into the city, this area would definitely be my first choice.
