I have just moved to Al Ain. I want to home school my son who needs to complete UK Year 11. Any advice?

There are both correspondence schools and virtual schools in the UK in which you could enrol your son.

Correspondence schools include:

http://www.homeeducationspecialists.org.鈥?/a>

http://www.oxfordhomeschooling.co.uk

http://www.nec.ac.uk/courses/category-br鈥?/a>

Virtual schools include:

http://www.briteschool.co.uk

http://www.interhigh.co.uk

http://www.firstcollege.co.uk

http://www.northstaruk.org

You could also ';go it alone'; by ordering books etc from the UK.

Advice on UK education?

I am an American student interested in studying in the UK for an undergraduate honors degree in Business Studies. I've heard that the UK educational system is a lot more strict than the US and I'd like to know exactly how university works there.

What are the classes like?

How many classes do you have per week/per semester?

How often do exams take place?

What are the exams like?

Will I need to change my revision/note taking/researching methods in order to do well?

How are assignments/exams graded?

What sort of other classroom assignments are graded?

How do those grades translate into first, upper-second, lower-second, and third honors?

Once I start, which of those grades/honors is the minimum for an academic merit based scholarship?

How difficult is it to receive first honors?

If someone could answer those and provide more information on some things that I may need to know that aren't listed there, I'd be very grateful!Advice on UK education?
Right...

I'm not doing a Business Studies degree so I can't answer a lot of your questions. I am at university in London but the format of degrees differs hugely across subjects and universities.

Some things I know...

There are usually a range of class types. In some you won't have to participate, in some you will and will have work set every week. You should be given reading lists for all your courses.

Most students have exams in the summer, but there may be others at other times in the year that count for a percentage of your final mark - January mainly.

You shouldn't need to change the way you study, mainly its just common sense, hard work and organisation.

I'm pretty sure this is universal - a first is 70%, 2.1 is 60, 2.2 is 50 and a third (pass) is 40%. Its not too hard to get a 2.1, but some universities are harder than others. However, an employer in the UK will normally take into account how challenging individual courses are.

I would say you need a 2.1 to continue on to masters etc.

You can find out a lot about this on the individual university websites. I have no idea which ones you might consider. Look on UCAS.

  • Who can give me the best debt advice in the uk?

I agree with Bob P - CAB is definitely the way to go. They helped me lots. You also might want to check this page out, which takes you step-by-step how to get a bit more control yourself, before you even go to the CAB. http://www.squidoo.com/personal-debt-management-five-stepsWho can give me the best debt advice in the uk?
I would recommend a company called Payplan, you can visit their site at www.payplan.co.uk they are really helpfull and don't make any judgement on you. They take into

account all you incomes and outgoings and work out a payment plan to suit you. They will take an agreed amount from your bank each month to pay each of the companies you owe money to. They DO NOT charge for the service, therefore all the money you pay out goes to your debts.

There are a lot of companies who charge you money to help you, try to avoid them. Hope this helps. xWho can give me the best debt advice in the uk?
Paul---debt is the same in China--Japan--Australia--States or UK. Do not get in debt---a home is different--you must borrow. Never pay your monthly oblicatons late and pay every month. Eatablish a credit rating that you are responsible and trustworthy. That may get you a better paying job. That you can take to the bank. Friviously spending on credit cards creates a strain on the next pay day. Some people in the States cannot have a bank account cause of bad debt.

If your having debt problems---the free advise is---get two jobs or more and get the monkey off your back. Stop spending Stop buying. Stay out of the pubs--being blotto does not help--If I had a consulting office I would charge you 50 pounds. Stay away from the professional he will charge more--OK

    Good Luck-----
    Hi,

I have to agree with the other answers and say the CAB as a first stop. They are free and independent.

If you go to a IVA or debt management company you will end up paying one way of another.

The CAB is over run with debt cases at the moment and transfer a lot of their work load over to CCCS and Debtline which are also free, but to qualify for help from those companies you must have some surplus income and debts of over a certain amount.

The CAB will help you work out exactly how much you owe, who to and calculate what you can pay back by working out a pro-rata payment scheme (IVA) They will help you write to all your creditors and in some cases can get debts written off. Its quite complicated but they know their stuff!

(But be warned if you go to CAB and they help you but you then muck up your creditors CAB wont help again!)

    Hope this helps.
go to citizens advice... you wont get ripped off or conned into paying a percentage of other companys free advice or so called.

do it now before you get any further in there good luck...

they were a great help to me.

I hope this helped and good luck.

Oh, and dont go to any ';Company'; that will help to consolidate your debts, you will end up paying for their service, and you will end up with twice as much debt.
I Agree CAB worth a visit but also try

Can I play Japanese Nintendo Wii in the UK. Any advice on this please as I have ordered one for sons chrostmas

Can you play the Japanese version of Nintendo Wii in the UK. Any information about this would be great as I have one for my 2 sons christmas gift with a few games. I am just hoping there will be no problems. Can I play Japanese Nintendo Wii in the UK. Any advice on this please as I have ordered one for sons chrostmas
yeah i guess so. great choice on buying the wii. :DCan I play Japanese Nintendo Wii in the UK. Any advice on this please as I have ordered one for sons chrostmas
you will need a diffrent power supply cord which you can find at any store.
Wow..I hate to be the one who ruined it for you, but the console wont play any UK. games.

and also unfortunately everything will be in Japanese......so not only will you have to special order the games from eBay or a sedentary source, they may need to learn Japanese...
Q: Is the Wii a region-free system? In other words, can the console play games from America and Japan without limitations?

A: No. Nintendo of America mistakenly stated that Wii games were region free, but the subsidiary has since corrected itself. Wii games - both internally developed and from third parties - will include region locks that prevent American users from playing Japanese imports on their system, and vice versa, according to Nintendo.
I think if its a Japanese Wii, it would be the same, as long as you buy the english games...

What do you think about the NL cash game advice on www.pokerprofessor.co.uk?

There is a whole section on No Limit cash games. What do you think of the starting hands chart at http://www.pokerprofessor.co.uk/winning-poker/wps10-poker-starting-hands.htm. click on this link and then open the pdf file starting hand chart. does it give good advice? What do you think about the NL cash game advice on www.pokerprofessor.co.uk?
i didn't look, but i'd be surprised if it's any different than a thousand other sources. What do you think about the NL cash game advice on www.pokerprofessor.co.uk?
Does it give good advice? Absolutely not. Ace King, suited or unsuited, is one of the most overrated hands in poker. According to the chart, you should raise a re-raise from any position with that hand. Pre-flop, a pair of twos is a better hand. There are 13 hands that are better, in fact. A suited Ace King could arguably be the best drawing hand, but what do you do when there are no aces, kings, Broadway draws, or there's a rainbow flop? You've got a high card situation, which is pretty much garbage.

And just call if you're blind with pocket Queens and there's been a raise? Aside from the fact that the chart doesn't indicate how big the raise should be (either from you or your opponent) in ANY situation, if somebody raises your blind with suited Jack 10, you're only supposed to call? That chart is worthless in my opinion. Not only is it completely void of good advice, it completely removes the human element from the game. If you're playing according to the chart, someone will pick up on your pattern eventually. And it probably goes without saying that nobody else you're playing against will be following those guidelines.
Well, it's not terrible for a beginner. It's actually a pretty typical hand chart, which is just a guideline to get you started. You're not going to win much at anything but the weakest of games, but you should be able to limit your losses. If you've barely played poker or are getting destroyed playing junk cards on a regular basis, this is a fine place to start.

As far as Full Houses' comments, I agree that you're generally not going to raise a re-raise with AK suited. There are certainly situations where you would, but as a general rule, I'd just call a re-raise, and if you happen to be at one of the super-tight tables where nobody re-raises without QQ or better, I would not be averse to folding. As far as calling in the blinds will QQ, it's not the horrible play he's making out out to be. If you assume your opponents are playing a similarly tight style, then they're not going to be raising from early position with JT (like Full House suggested), so I don't know what that little rant was about. Typically, an early raiser is probably going to have an ace in his hand, so calling out of position, waiting to see if an Ace comes on the flop, they going from there is a fine approach to that hand.

Possibly moving to Calgary next year from UK. Any advice?

Will be going to visit Calgary and Banff in Sept, hopefully will have some interviews lined up by then. Don't want to waste time while there, can you give any advice on best places to look at in connection with living and working? Would especially appreciate replies from anyone who has moved there fairly recently. Where would be the nicest / best value places to live in that area?Possibly moving to Calgary next year from UK. well calgary is very big, busy and expensive, i also moved from england to canada and its hard to start a new life without knowing anyone and not having family, i work for yankee, and i got transferred from calgary to saskatoon
    Snow,dont go.
It seems like lots of people moving to Calgary....there are many oil jobs for you but it's very expensive for the house and very difficult to find an apartment. I hate morning traffic. Vancouver Island is better for sure!
just hve fun and enjoy it way better skys than da uk!
i live in calgary and the best places are the stampede which takes place from june-september and calaway park its a bit far but its a great amusement park=)

also i love going to the rocky mountains there great and they have awesome restaurants here like olive garden and stuff
i live here in Calgary and its insanely expensive but there are plenty of jobs that pay good. if you wanna start looking for jobs online there is this site www.jobbank.gc.ca and a good place to look for houses is www.rentfaster.com...

good luck. i hope you find what your looking for
Move to Vancouver, it was ranked the #1 best place in the world to live
I don't know about working since you didn't tell us the field you are in, but as far as living, the farther away from downtown you live, the nicer it is. Calgary is way to big a city for me, but an area I fell in love with is called MacKenzie Town. Everything is fairly expensive as far as housing is concerned, but this area is like a little town within a city. Everything you need (practically) is a 5 minute drive away. Grocery stores, hardware stores, barbers, doctors, restaurants, pubs....everything is in this little area. I dated a guy who lived in this area, and if I ever was to move directly into the city, this area would definitely be my first choice.

    Life insurance advice please...(UK Law)?

When I was married my husband took out a life insurance policy on me. We are now divorced. I rang the insurance company today and asked what my options were and apparently I can do ntohing..not even cancel it..as he has set it up in a trust. Is there any way I can challenge this?Life insurance advice please...(UK Law)?
As your husband is the proposer,he is the owner of the policy.

He also did not have to put it in trust as he is the policyholder.Life insurance advice please...(UK Law)?
Whole life, universal life, and variable life steals your cash value when you die. And if you want to use it, you have to borrow it and owe 5-8% interest on it!

Buy Term And invest the difference into Traditional/Roth IRA, both grow tax-deferred and have higher rate of return than cash value!

In UK you can have life policy on any life as long you have insurable interest (husband and wife) at the onset of the contract but insurable interest does not have to exist at the time of claim.
    NO
Not if he owns the policy, even though it is on your life. If you have no children, there is no reason for him to keep the policy. If you have children then he will need financial backup should you die and therefore still needs the policy after break up.

Either way, it is up to him by the sounds of it.

You must have agreed to this life cover when you signed the application form.
No, if the life insurance was taken out in his name, even if you are a named party who would benefit from this policy, it does not give you power to cash in or add to this policy. It also means your husband could in effect take you off the policy thereby meaning you would not benefit in the event of his (or others in the event of your) death. I would contact your husband and hopefully reach an amicable solution. Alternatively seek advice from a solicitor who specialises in divorce settlements. Good luck!
If he is the policy holder, He is solely in control.

Ask your ex-husband if he can civilly discuss the options. He may choose a lawyer with him, but thats OK.

Tell him you want him to either Transfer the policy over to you, or cancel it and give you proof of cancellation.

If he refuses, make it clear that you are not intending to pay any premiums towards it, nor are in any way liable.

As the policyholder, he is solely liable to pay the premiums for it. If it is in your name, it is not ussually possible to use it on any other person.

In other words, He is still paying premiums on it, but cannot claim on it unless something happens to you AND YOU ONLY. His current girlfriend is not protected.

Does it not sound better to think of it that way rather than considering you cannot do anything with it.

I have been in touch with the Disablment Employment Adviser at the Job Centre

    Legal advice please (uk)?

to cut it short last week i was in hospital and my treatment was appauling.i gave birth and when i was put onto the ward it was dirty and very cold. i was told i would be discharged after 6 hours but they said i could discharge myself but they would with hold baby even though we were both perfectly healthy. they said she coudl not go until seen by a paediatrician. i was hysterical as you can imagine. my husband was almost ejected from the premesis even though he was not abusive just matter of fact with the staff.nxt wk someone from the hospital is doing a home visit and we dont know why. im on edge and still get nevery after the experience we endured. did they have the right to threaten to hold my baby and could i take action against the hospital for the stress i have felt since having my baby this should be a happy time for us all but i cant forget that night in hospital.......Legal advice please (uk)?
That was so awful. I have to tell you before you do so complaining will get you no where. They'll just coverit up. I have had a similar experience but that was clinical negligence and I nearly died. I'm now taking legal action as the complaints procedure was a farce.

If you wish to try it any way have you heard of the Community Health Council? They are patient advocates that deal in heah complaints. You should be able to find one in the phone book. Also, there is nothing stopping you asking a solicitor for advice, most give you an half hour for free to seek advice over your options. To have evicted your husband they have to prove the grounds they done this not just say for r but or this reason. I'd seek advice and try to get the appology that I think you sound like you deserve. I wish you the bestof luck and enjoy your new baby.Legal advice please (uk)?
I'm sorry to hear about your mum. You take every avenue you can get your hands on to get Justice and stop them doing this to anyone else. The last thing you need with a new baby is unnecessary worries and battles. And thank you for choosing my answer and thanks for the good luck. Go get em!

First, you should try to settle this with your insurance, they can help you with both legal and moral advice.

    Then, you have this:

    http://www.1stclaims.co.uk/articles/medi鈥?/a>
Its normal for a nurse to visit, sounds like u had some horrible treatment from the hospital seek legal advice
Seek legal advice. When we had our baby I was shocked, it really felt like a 3rd world hospital in Africa, there was a patch of blood on the floor for 3 days. We pay a fortune and deserve better. Ps dont worry, home visit is normal. Just agree with them, then do what YOU think is best.
Due to the stress that has been caused by the actions of the hospital staff you could bring an action for nervous shock. However, in order to do so you would have to show a clearly identifiable psychiatric condition as a direct consequence of their acts or omissions. The fact that you have been angered or inconvenienced would not be sufficient!

Actions also lie in the tort of negligence but you would have to show some kind of ';damage'; and it appears from the facts given this is not possible either.

You may, apart from making some kind of formal complaint, have to accept that it is one of those events in life for which no legal remedy is available.
Its common practice for a nurse to visit you after the baby is born, just to see how your getting on. Don't worry!
Don't worry about your health visitor they can be very helpful and understanding.

If you want to take your complaint further the first thing you should do is put it in writing to the Chief Executive of your Health Authority, he then has to ask for statements from the staff involved in your treatment and write back to you with his findings. If you are still not happy send copies of your written complaint and the reply from the Chief Exec to your MP.

    Good Luck
well it sounds like you had a very traumatic experience. Is this your first baby? Well, they do recommend that baby is seen by a pediatrician before it goes home....just to rule out any problems....(imagine if they discharged mother and baby without baby being checked over properly, then something happened to the baby at home, they would get sued for negligence) it's very important that baby gets checked, and I don't understand why you were in such a rush to leave, I understand the environment wasn't great, but it's better for baby to be checked before you go anywhere.

As you probably know, the labour wards in UK are seriously understaffed, and I had a c-section in March, my story was the opposite, they were so busy, they only kept me in for one night and had to discharge me and baby before she was checked my the pediatrician, because he was so busy! I was worried sick that I had to take her home before she was checked over....anyway....sometimes, if they're especially busy, they'll do the checks on a home visit.

But you will always have a midwife come and visit you at home almost everyday for the first 2 weeks after baby is born....that is normal and happens to everyone. Also, the health visitor from the hospital will visit once or twice.

I'm not sure if you can take action against the hospital, but you should be thankful that they were so thorough in wanting to check your baby over.

    Pension advice please (UK).?

My present employer offers a final salary pension scheme, which I contribute to. My last employer ran a pension scheme, which they (the employer) contributed to, but I chose not to as I knew I wouldn't be there long. Anyway it now stands as having 拢4300 in the fund, what I would like to know is, should I transfer this to my present employers scheme or leave it where it is and take (what I know will be a small amount) on retirement? Thanks.Pension advice please (UK).?
General response to 'ask professional advice' .. however the COST of that advise is likely to be excessive ...

What you should already have from your old scheme is a 'projected pension value at 65'

What you also need to know, is the Transfer value (how much will they give you to transfer into the new scheme).

Once you have the Transfer value, ask you present employers Pension Fund to calculate what pension THEY think this will buy at 65 (i.e. get them to do a 'projected pension value at 65' for theTransfered fuunds ONLY).

In both cases you need to know any ASSUMPTIONS that might have been made (for example, a lot of Transfers will be into a 'Money Purcashe' fund - very few will add the Transfer to the Final Salary pot - so to calc. projected pension they will have to make some assumption about stock market growth)

With this info. I suggest you then ask your current Employer if you can speak to the Pension Trustees = they should be able to assist you in deciding wether to Tranfer or not.

NB. You might also need to consider how stable the old and new company schemes are. i.e. what's the chance they go bust and leave you with less that the 'projected' value ??Pension advice please (UK).?
This is an area where you really need professional advice - not advice from a bunch of think-they-know-it-alls (but in reality haven't got a clue) on a site like this.
Very important to get this right. Seek independent advice. The Bradford and Bingley give this and are obliged to give you the best advice. You can get a free interview by appointment at any branch.

Te same savings limit applies to all benefits - anything under 拢6000 is disregarded. If you ave savings of between 拢6000 and 拢16000 then your benefits will be reduced accordingly. But, if you've got 拢16000 or more you will not be entitled to any benefits.UK: Can I have some DSS/legal advice concerning the amount you can save please?
    Six thousand pounds.
Ask them for information on this, they are obliged to give the information to you, it should consist of an information letter or something of the like.
You need to check with the DSS helpline as it changes so often.Your carers allowance shouldnt be affected it isnt a benefit it is a payment for taking care of someone.
Last time I heard 8 thousand. Could have gone up, where I work they dont save much so its not an issue at moment. ( social services)

  • First time buyers UK mortgage advice?

A friend of mine is looking to buy a new build and really take advantage of the incentives they offer for first time buyers. Thing is for what he wants to buy he can only really afford to do it as a first time buyer with the included developers incentives.

He doesnt want to move into the flat but let it out or give it to a letting agency to take care of. Are there issues with this in terms of buying on a first time buyers and than renting it out? Do you have to inform the mortgage company afterwards? Whats the best way to make it work out legally or in a way that he gets all the advantages of the first time buyers (i.e. live there for a few months then rent it).

Anyone had experience in this? Ideas, advice, legal loop holes :).?First time buyers UK mortgage advice?
There shouldn't be a problem with your mate renting out his flat, the best thing to do is to inform the mortgage lender that he plans to let out the property and take out adequate insurance for the place. If he wants to manage it himself then I guess it is just a case of him making sure that he can take care of any domestic issues that arise like the boiler breaking down and collecting rent. The thing to watch out for is the new HMO's that have come in but this will only affect him if he has more than three tenants in the place. In terms of incentives he might want to check out the guarantees that come with buying a new build, I understand that some of them come with these so he might save some money in the long run.

Bringing Chinese husband to the UK- advice needed :)?

the thing is, i'm Polish, currently living in the Mainland China and married half a year ago to a native Chinese boy. i have worked before in the UK, about a year and a half...though one year was as an au pair with an english family, so i wasn't registered anywhere. in september this year, i'm going to begin studying at a british university, i'll be working too of course...

and so my question is: will my husband be able to come to the UK with me, live with me and work? what conditions do we have to fulfill?

i read on some website that i may have to: ';prove to the consulate that you can accommodate him and that you can support him financially until he gets work'. would that be the case? how much would i be required to have on my bank account, and what if i don't?

we're going to go to Poland first and i guess we'd apply for his visa to the UK from englisg embassy in poland too...i suppose it'd be easier to obtain than from Beijing. also, when he gets the visa -marriage visa it is called i suppose? - can he work in the UK straight away or have to get some other papers, like work permit or something..?

he speaks english, though not perfect :)

thanks for any response :)Bringing Chinese husband to the UK- advice needed :)?
Yes u can bring him, but unless u lived %26amp; worked in UK for 12 months to make u free from WRS, its gonna be a tiny bit difficult.

I am printing Official UK visa websites it has all the details how to bring ur man from China.

You do need a job with at least three pay slips %26amp; a place to live (accommodate him). If u are under WRS, he will be given only six months entry clearance and once ur are free from 12 months restrictions, his stay will be extended with 5 years Spouse visa. Once he is in UK, make sure u extended his stay well in advance (apply six weeks before entry clearance expires).

    Good luck.

I live in UK and im in a long distance relationship with my girlfriend who lives in Australia advice.?

My girlfriend and I love each other so much and we really want to meet each other but we live on other sides of the world ): we send pictures and text each other alot but she doesnt have a webcam and i do, and i always go on it for her, but she cant go on it ): I really want to be with her in real life but i cant, and i really wish i could, how can i feel closer to her/I live in UK and im in a long distance relationship with my girlfriend who lives in Australia advice.?
Look Alex what if she really isn't the girl in the pics that she sends you the only way to be sure is to meet her either in person or get her a webcam. I mean can't she afford to buy one, they are not that expensive.

Anyway do you really think it will work out? You should get a girl who lives in the same country with you, don't you want to be able to kiss and hug her, go to the movies and have dinner, this situation is hopeless unless your both mega ritch and can fly to see each other when you feel like it I'm sure most people can only probably afford to do so once and if you do visit it will be even harder to leave when you know you have to save up another year or 2 to go visit again. I know I would not carry a relationship with someone so far away.

I don't know. Whatever you decide you have to think about your futire. Good luck.I live in UK and im in a long distance relationship with my girlfriend who lives in Australia advice.?
The simple answer is, you can't.

Long distance relationships seldom work, but that's no means to say that yours won't, if you want to be together enough then sooner or later you'll make it work.
Yes you have to go ahead and visit after a while
Did u ever meet her in real life before? If not then it could be a 40 year old man your talking to
buy her a webcam and mail it.
    go visit
get your *** on a plain in go see her. buy her a webcam
buy her a webcam....save up some money and fly over to her and see her

I caught my husband of 2 months with a prostitute. both UK but working in UAE. Legal advice?

Dont know how to go about proceedings here regarding the law.I caught my husband of 2 months with a prostitute. both UK but working in UAE. Legal advice?
You need legal advice so you should find an attorney.I caught my husband of 2 months with a prostitute. both UK but working in UAE. Legal advice?
UAE Marriage law fully counts for the man, not the woman.

You have to conclusively prove he is being adulterous- if you can- congrats- he can get sent to jail out there!
Whose both Brits? You and hubby or him and the hooker?

I think the UAE takes a much more dimmer opinion of prostitution than the UK or US. I think they take hookers and lay a lash across their backs a couple dozen times.

In any case...check with your embassy for info. They'll get you on the right track.

  • Buying a used car (UK) - advice please!?

I've been looking at buying a used car from a dealer. The seller says it has had one owner from new which has been confirmed by a vehicle status report I took out. However, report says that the last time a VC5 was issued was in 2004, which I am confused about. Does that mean a change of ownership happened in 2004 and if so, wouldn't that mean that the car had had 2 owners i.e. the one before 2004 and the one now? The car is also not taxed at the moment.

Is this unusual/strange/dodgy?Buying a used car (UK) - advice please!?
I suppose there might be another reason why it was issued in 2004, i.e. a change of address of the owner, or a modification to the car. Perhaps you should call the DLA to ask why it was issued then. I don't think it strictly means a change of ownership, but they should be able to advise you better. Go with your instinct, it's usually right.Buying a used car (UK) - advice please!?

A faters in pakistan wants to be a part of his child in uk please advice?

i was in uk on a student visa for 8 years and i had a daughter there who is 5 now and i wanna be a part of her life can anyone tell me what my options are please i am in Pakistan nowA faters in pakistan wants to be a part of his child in uk please advice?
Now few things I would like to know before I can answer ur question with legal point of view.

    1) Did you marry the mother of your child (in UK)? (marriage certificate etc)

    2) What country the mother of your child originally comes from (if not local British)?

    3) If married, then did you get divorced ?

    4) Was ur daughter born, after you got married with her mother?

    5) Have u been paying maintenance for ur daughter (do u have records for that, bank transfers etc.)?

    6) when u went to Pakistan, didn't you have visa valid enough to return to UK? What made u stay in Pakistan long enough to have ur visa expired?

Being the part of child's life is important, also its important for child to know %26amp; meet father on regular basis, but sometimes its just not possible.

It doesn't matter where you come from %26amp; ignore the messages who are ranting, you have a right to ask a question and deserve a serious answer.

You have option, to apply for visa ';Access to child resident in UK';, you can use that one to visit ur daughter on regular basis.A faters in pakistan wants to be a part of his child in uk please advice?
do you know where to find your daughter, if not find some way to 'trak her down'. se if you can talk to the perant/gardian of your child and talk to them first its better than barging in belive me thay could be a bit angry that you left. explaine to them it wasn't your fault you had to leave and that you are very sorry for that. but please you just want to be a part of your baby girls life.
You could ask the woman if her and your child would like to come to Pakistan. That way you can be the father you so desire to be.....or am i just being silly.
Stay there . You should never have been in the UK in the first place .
why cant you all live in pakistan?
If you can prove you are Father of that child - then you can use that basis to apply for immigration to the UK - especially if you have education and can get a job.

If you want to stay living in Pakistan, then I would ask the mother if you can visit sometime, or send letters and small presents sometimes.

They probably won't let the child visit you - since they know by Islamic law you can keep the child a prisoner as the father.

Personalised Number Plates, UK, advice please ?

My sister got a personlised number plate 2 years ago as a present from a boyfriend, but after 12 months the DVLA asked for (i think) around 拢120 in order to keep it, it had been off a car for 12 months.

They said if we didn't pay the 拢120 every year the number plate wasn't on the road, then we would lose the number plate.

We never paid the 拢120 the dvla was asking as we didn't have the money and its been 12 months since they asked for it.

Who now owns that number plate that we had ?

Are we able to get it back ?

Any advice from UK people appreciated.

Thank you.Personalised Number Plates, UK, advice please ?
You no longer own it. You can get it back if no one else has bought it, otherwise it is not available.Personalised Number Plates, UK, advice please ?
You are not going to like me Mary! Why bother? Personalised number plates just have to be one of the dumbest forms of customising ever. Simply because half the people don't even notice them and they don't impress the ones who do notice them an iota.
I have a personal number plate thats on a retention certificate i.e.not on a car and the charge is 拢25 per year until you put it on a car.The only other charge is 拢25 to change address so I would querie what this 拢120 charges is for.

However if you have paid nothing the ownership of the plate reverts back to the DVLA and if you still want it you will have to buy it from them,if its still available.
You'll have to contact the DVLA to be sure but they have every right to re-issue that number to anyone willing to pay for it.
DVLA now will have the number unless they have already sold it. Go onto their website and enter the reg No. You may be able to buy it back from them.

    yes what is it
Unfortunately there may as well not be any immigration law as the 'law' such as it is, is abused and ignored and even overturned by judges.

The human rights act, no doubt brought in by Bliar on Cherie Blair's say so, put paid to any chances of our immigration laws having any use whatsoever.

Cherie Blair has made a fortune via her law firm, Matrix, on the back of this act.

Advice on joint property ownership - UK advice please...?

I would really appreciate some advice on property ownership from anybody with knowledge of UK law….. USA contributors are wonderfully helpful %26amp; lovely, but I need UK advice…

I bought a house with a former friend in October 2006 %26amp; we both agreed it was for 2-5 years.

It’s now 2year 1 month on %26amp; I want to go live with my partner. We cannot afford to sell the house realistically as it’s now worth £15K less than we paid for it so I wanted to rent it out in it’s entirety (it’s 3 double beds, 2 bathrooms %26amp; downstairs toilet, only 4 years old %26amp; in quite good condition). I suggested that we should both move out %26amp; rent the place out until property prices come up again as the rent would easily cover the mortgage (I’ve done the sums) but she is refusing to leave the property offering the following “compromises”:

She has said I can move out %26amp; still pay the full mortgage (why would I want to??)

    or

Sign the house over to her losing my £10K deposit (as above - why would I want to?)

I don’t feel those are fair compromises %26amp; think she is being deliberately difficult so I’m thinking suggesting that I rent out the two double rooms I occupy to a couple or single person (she has the entire top floor). Obviously I’d get all this checked through a solicitor with signed agreements etc….and would ensure it was up at the end of the 5 years or this could continue indefinitely..... this is so I can cover the mortgage %26amp; buy a place with my partner.

PLEASE don’t advise that I should have had a proper written agreement 2 years ago, I do know this now, but unless you have a time machine you can lend me this isn’t a practical option…..

Can anybody who has some knowledge of UK law please advise….. despite all this I’d really rather sort this out amicably if possible without resorting to threats (eg. stopping paying the mortgage - for which we are jointly %26amp; separately liable, I wouldn’t do this anyway) as I still think it is possible for us both to salvage something from the situation without “compromises” that benefit only me or her.

Advice on joint property ownership - UK advice please...?
    Hi Lilith.

This is a difficult one, given the state of the current property market here. You are right in thinking that you have joint and several liability in relation to the property and the mortgage, so stopping payments is not an option as it may lead to a possession action and a sale at auction with a price less than you would get selling on the open market.

The other thing to remember about joint ownership is that both of you jointly own the lot. You do not have separate bits that you can each deal with independently. You both have to deal with the whole or nothing - so no renting a bit off unless you both agree.

The compromises are, as you say, all one way. I would not want to agree to them either. Had the market been different (and a sale not leave you in debt), then I would have simply applied to court for an order that the property is sold, as one joint owner (you) no longer wishes to be one. This may still be possible if the market picks up.

Until such time as it does, or you both agree a way forward that you can both accept (however unpalatable) you are, I'm afraid, stuck.

Barring the time machine (sorry, mine is in for servicing at the moment), the only practical suggestion that I have is for the two of you to consider a binding mediation. It will cost a bit, but mediators are trained to look for a win-win outcome.

Need some advice how to help my mum in the uk.?

I have been in London for 2 years now. My mum came to London about 2 months now. She came here to get a better job and to help my brother and I financially. Just to mention it was her decision. My mother has a Master In Telecommunications engineer, and she has at least 10 years experience in the field. She has been here for 2 months and she has not got a proper response yet, like an interview. This is stressing her out a lot. Financially we are doing great, i mean am working so it isnt a problem. But with my brother coming to study, it will get a lot harder. My dad also is putting lots of pressure on her as he can only come here when my mum has a full time job contract. This is stressign her too much. I duno how can i help her? Any ideas.Need some advice how to help my mum in the uk.?
Tell your mom to work on improving her CV (or even seeking help from an expert regarding this).

It's all about ';how'; she presents her information.

After she gets herself a polished shiny CV, they will call her for interviews. So, she has to read about that a whole lot and practice in order to ace the interview.

Also, she should apply for jobs that suit her degree and experience.Need some advice how to help my mum in the uk.?
Your doing your part. You're working and therefore bringing in an income. Something will come along for her. Give it some more time. Just try to keep her thinking positively. You're a good daughter!
It could be her interview technique...or her C.V. (resume) style...if she's getting interviews then it might be her presentation. You dont mention what your nationality is...sometimes cultural differences can make it hard to fit in..maybe if your Mum were to meet other women of her nationality who have been in U.K for a while and they could give her tips.

Otherwise, make sure she is not over...or under qualified for the jobs she is trying to get.

  • Have you emigrated to France from the uk? Can you give me advice please?

My partner and i are seriously considering moving from the uk to France. I understand that this isn't a decision to be taken lightly, that is the reason for this question..( every bit of research helps) Could you give us some tips that you think are very important when moving, buying property? How did you adjust to the differences in culture? What do you wish you had done differently?

We only speak very very basic French and aim to be fluent with in a year, do you think this is possible, and what is the best way to learn..(online? CDS, french classes???. ( we want to learn before we live there)

And any other useful information you can think of...

I heard the taxes are high over there, is this correct?

Ain your experience are the French patient and accepting of the British?

Any advice will be much appreciated how ever small or insignificant you might think it is... it all helps us to build up a bigger picture. ThanksHave you emigrated to France from the uk? Can you give me advice please?
I moved to France in 1999.

I now live in the South east, near Marseille.

I had no problems whatsoever in adjusting tot he culture.

Buying propety is a long process here, however, and you need a good level of French to get you through it, as there is a lot of Administrative work involved.

As for becoming fluent in French in one year, it really depends on how good you are at learning languages. If you have no previous experience, you cannot know how long it will take.

I spoke fluent Spanish when I arrived, and my French became fluent in a year and a half (I'm an English language teacher, and have a lot of experience in language learning)

The best way to learn is with a qualified and experienced teacher. There is no other substitute. Forget online classes, you need to learn a language from a person, you can't do it with a machine. That would be like trying to learn a computing language from a person, without using a machine. Impossible !

Tax is relatively high, but only if you are in the top earnings bracket.

In my experience, the French are very patient and understanding of the British, especially if you arrive with a lot of cash !

Feel free to contact me through my profile if you have any precise questions to askHave you emigrated to France from the uk? Can you give me advice please?
Bonjour ! Savs is correct in everything and I can only confirm his sayings, de la part d'une fran莽aise !

    Bonne chance !
    Ist;- Learn the language.

2nd;- Rent first until you see how you get on with the French.

3rd;- Do your research with reference to work(unless you are millionaires)

4th;- Get the appropriate health cards before you go.

5th;- do'nt burn all your bridges over here until you have given France a fair trial (12 months should be long enough).

6th;- Expect no help or benefits in France,so take enough money with you to support yourselves for 12 months.

7th.Good luck,it works for some but is a disaster for others. The grass can be greener but all to often it is not!
    Hi mojo!

Me I want to go in UK because I have as plan to work in tourism. My english is also basic like your french is basic. If you have an fixe line telephone I can help you to become fluent. Thanks.
Yep, loads of red tape!,many strikes, high taxes etc...etc..but in france they use your taxes for clean streets, fantastic public transport, efficient health service !,daily rubbish collection,100% education record...need I go on? .Pack your bags now!! The only good thing about the UK is the eurostar out of there! PS: If you want to live in france and have a serious climatical change you should draw a line across the map from bordeaux to lyon....anywhere south of this and your in real warmer climes !!

Can anyone give advice as to why the phone i got my daughter from ebay wont take her sim?The phone is from UK?

It is a Hip hop phone T model ....The phone is working but i am not sure why it wont work on 3 and her friend tried it with her sim on a different network??can someone helpCan anyone give advice as to why the phone i got my daughter from ebay wont take her sim?The phone is from UK?
Some phones are SIM locked, that is it will only work on one operator. Usually they would display messages like ';SIM rejected';, ';Insert Correct SIM';, or ';SIM LOCK active'; when you switch on the phone.

If not, it may be because the phone is not a 3G handset, and the USIM card entered may not be read by the phone (since you said it doesn't work on 3) or it may be read but just roam on a 2G network instead (in the UK, 3 roams on the o2 network when the 3 network is unavailable or has no coverage in your area).

Try checking if the phone is a 3G enabled phone (I'm pretty sure the Hip Top is not a 3G phone) and if it is SIM locked, by putting in another SIM Card into it (a 2G SIM card). Can anyone give advice as to why the phone i got my daughter from ebay wont take her sim?The phone is from UK?
The sim cards you are using may be to old to be supported by a newer model of phone such as the Hiptop, this happens a lot in the case of Iphone's and old sim cards, try purchasing a new sim and keeping the number she already has, mention to the network when purchasing that it's for a Hiptop...

secondly, im not sure which country you live in, but if your in say Australia and your trying to put an australian sim in a UK phone then it's not going to work due to the data stored inside the Hiptop, it was made with the intentionof staying in the UK, and only would register a sim card from the UK inside
Some phones are locked to a specific network, which means that unless an unlock code is obtained, it cannot be used by any other network. Try contacting the original company to see if they'll give you one, you might be lucky. If it's still under contract, however, or their policy is not to give them out at all you probably won't have much of a shot.

Can anyone give me advice on where to borrow money in the uk not using banks or brokers?

ZOPA - an online money lending exchange set up by the same bloke who founded EGG, and also has backing from others including the founder of EBAY. Need advice, going to Vegas from UK for 3 days!?

Hi, we're going to vegas next sept for 3 days and were hoping to not book a hotel and just slip into one if we wanted to sleep (we don't plan on it!). So has anyone done this? Also how much money should be take and should it be cash? Also do the casino's mind you taking bags in? We're going to pack VERY lightly so it'll only be a small rucksack between us. Many thanksNeed advice, going to Vegas from UK for 3 days!?
    1. You will probably be OK not booking a hotel, but you should check to make sure there isn't some major convention or event going on during the days of your stay. It can happen that most hotels on the Strip get sold out

    2. It's impossible to know how much money you will need. Only you know your gambling proclivities. I usually spend about $200/day per person which includes seeing a live show, a nice dinner, and incidentals - but does not include gambling. I could do it for half that amount if I wanted to cheap out.

    3. I bring cash because I don't like to pay ATM fees. It's pretty safe on the Strip if you take only a couple simple precautions against pickpockets (which are less numerous than in Europe).

    4. I have left my bags at Vegas hotels many times when I arrived a half-day or more prior to check-in. Never had a problem.Need advice, going to Vegas from UK for 3 days!?
Every casino operates 24/7, but you would NOT be allowed to sleep anywhere inside casinos except in guest rooms. Casinos have a lot of cameras everywhere so it's difficult for you to hide. Yes you can take a small case with you. How much money you need all depends on if you are going to gamble or what you are looking for. There are fast food restaurants on the strip so you could eat cheap or expensive. Other than for taxis and tipping, and the money for gambling, you won't need cash. There are plenty of ATM machines in every casino.
What you should do is get a Capri Room at the Imperial Palace for like $30-$35. They are really ugly, but at least you'll have a place for showers and a quick nap and to store your things. Also you'll be center strip so it's an easy walk to the best casinos.

    ---------------------

A rucksack is a problem near a gaming table like blackjack. The casinos are paranoid about people sneaking in computers in their bags. They are not as concerned if you are sitting near a slot machine. However, casinos are pretty public places. It will be annoying to have to watch over your bag all the time.
You will find a room in Las Vegas but I would book in advance then you get the best price. I would also check http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com - it has the latest promotions available.

Would You Advice To Leave USA for London, UK?

I'm a divorced 50 yrs old man residing in Virginia, USA. A few months ago I found my soul mate (future wife) in London, UK via the internet. I'm already established in USA as a middle class citizen. My future wife is also established in London and financially secure. She has a good job (perhaps better than mine), a nice house paid for, and others. Would you advice me to sell my house here, belongings, pack and move for London to live with her as a married couple? Is it better / prudent to reverse the scenario? Thank you much for your input.Would You Advice To Leave USA for London, UK?
I would say go. I too am moving to England to be with the one I love. Have you gone there yet? I would recommend going there 1st if you haven't.... I would also suggest maybe renting out your house, just in case...maybe if you have family that can look after it for you? By the way, where in Va are ya? I was born there, have family there, and am actually moving back there for a while before the big move across the pond lol. (I'm in Cali now..)

Good luck!Would You Advice To Leave USA for London, UK?
Taxes are higher but socialized medicine in your twilight years is a BIG bonus. If you love her enough to be there go for it! Though I would visit once first to be sure you will be able to adapt... London is a rather dirty crowded and small place. More, most people in the UK do not fancy Americans so much.

    Good Luck
Why not rent out your house for awhile.... see what happens... sometimes relationships are not the same in person as they are over the phone/internet. This way you will have something to come back to if everything isn't like you dream it will be. And even if it is... who knows you might want to switch countries after awhile.
I did this the other way around. I left everything in the UK and came to Maine to marry the love of my life. Unfortunately he dumped me 2 years later. I've struggled here alone for 6 years now and have decided to go back to the UK.

I would go and visit London first, see what you think of it before you commit yourself absolutely.

The UK is a great place though! I can't wait to get back.

    Good luck!
Ud b betta reversing it coz of da taxes. Fanks a lot Mr G Brown.
The best i can advice is tfor you to put your house on rent. That will be done if only you truly love that woman.

Tell her to search for a job for you there so that once you get to that place you won't sitting at home and the woman doing the expenses. one day the love may slightly lower and the woman may rain that insult on you.

If you want to go there then go there as a firm man without relying on anybody .

    from Theodore
I think you should rent your house out and go to London and get to know this person before you go and change your whole life.
Go first %26amp; check it out. Nice place. Rains a bit though. Of course i am in California which is really nice too
If you'll be happier, then absolutely!
i would go there before i would make that decision
if it would make u happy than YEAH go. but also keep in mind that when u transfer dollars to euros, u won't get much and it is expensive to visit Europe from almost anywhere.so u might not have money left if u transfered every single cent of ur money u made from the u.s. to euro.

    hoped i helped!
I think it would be very romantic. Not only romantic but a adventure as well..

I would first take a ';trip'; out there to kinda get the feel of what you are getting yourself into before you make any rash decisions. You might get out there after selling everything and decide you don't like it.. or shes not right for you or something like that.

Than when things are settled and you have made your decision then go.

I wish the best for you and her..

    Good luck hun
You couldn't find a soul mate in the USA? I honestly believe we have many soul mates if we give it a chance.

I just got back from London- horrible place. Depending on where you are living in VA you could be in for a shock. I am not saying don't take a chance, but don't sell everything and move permanently. Rent out your home here and give it a try.

bjork fan they use POUNDS in the UK not Euros.
oh boy, I wouldn't wanna live in UK. Haven't u seen 28 days later, that freaking virus wiped the whole place out.
i donno if u should go 4 her but deff go 4 u

london rocks n its b a great exsperience

but maybe go over there 4 a month or so n see how it works with her then if it doesnt u can come back 2 the usa
if i were you i would just go for it!!! dont hesitate just love and live your life!!!
It depends on the shared priorities. It sounds about even financially, but I'd consider moving to London for no other reason than to use it as a base from which to do some traveling.
Of course. If you really believe that this lady is your soul mate then sell everything and move. However, is there anyone you are leaving behind here (kids, grand kids, etc)?

London is great and the people are awesome! I love a woman with a British accent. Good luck. Let your heart lead you in the right direction!
if i were you...i would definitely go...life is too short for thinking about little concerns...just pack and go and enjoy life.

Can anyone offer advice on relocating to Carlifonia from the UK.?

Can anyone give any helpful advice, I live in the UK and I want to go start a new life in Carlifonia. I dont know what to do regarding work, housing and living expenses.

I've got a Masters degree in Business Administration with up to 5 years work experience.

Where do I start? Can anyone offer advice on relocating to Carlifonia from the UK.?
The cleanest way to do it (especially if you have a business background) is to get a job in the UK with a company that also has a branch in CA (usually LA or SF area). You can apply for a transfer and come out to California. Some companies will pay you a UK salary but they will arrange housing (or give you a budgeted amount for housing here to make up for the cost of living difference) If it works out and you like it here (including a balance of expensive housing, high gas prices, neo-conservatives/ex-actors as governer, Cali culture, great food, decent shopping, bad public transportation, celeb sightings), then great! But if not, you always have something to fall back on.

My fiance is an ex-pat like you, and that's the route he took. Good luck! Can anyone offer advice on relocating to Carlifonia from the UK.?
Start with Craigslist. It's a great resource for finding jobs, housing %26amp; cheap furniture. Also, you can review it to get an idea of what to expect in terms of rent, salary, etc.
Here's a primer on our major cities:

    1. San Francisco is the most ';European'; city in the U.S. Physically, this is the case because of the influences of Victorian and French neo-classical arthitecture, as well as the fog and rocky terrain. It is also densely populated and compact (served by an underground system and trams), in the Old World tradition.

However, most Americans say ';European'; as a puritanical insult (pointing to San Francisco's lax attitudes toward so-called 'sin' and 'vices'). Known for its leftist politics, San Francisco is perhaps the only place in America where one can claim to be a socialist in public. Which is all the more surprising (and perhaps more than a bit hypocritical) considering it serves as the American West's leading money lender and investor!

It is, undoubtedly, the banking/financial center of California... as it has been since the Gold Rush days. There's a strong technology sector in Silicon Valley (30-40 minutes south of the city) as well.

    2. If San Francisco is European, Los Angeles is the epitome of the American Dream. It sprawls as far as the eye can see -- all single family homes, swimming pools, and suburban strip malls. Anyone who can't afford it goes to a slum. The automobile is everywhere, and public transport is practically useless. Locals are mostly oblivious to the pollution and crime problems (or simply don't care).

Consumption, egocentricism, and showing off one's wealth are important cultural aspects of Los Angeles. Although aside from materialism and bodily appearances, L.A. is not old-fashioned. Certainly, Los Angeles isn't conservative, but it is more of a centre-left Third Way creature than radical San Francisco.

As befits it's glitzy attitude, Los Angeles is the capital of fashion, media, and entertainment in California... rivaling New York in these industries.

    3. In contrast to both S.F. and L.A., San Diego is California's most conservative major city. A stronghold of President Bush, Arnie, and one of the largest militarized zones in the world. It is the headquarters of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

It is beautiful, sunny, and safe. In quality of life terms, it is perhaps one of the best places in the nation. Although it is lacking in an innovative edge. San Diego's reputation is that of the inflexible old geezer that's perfectly content with everything it has, refusing to change even to its detriment (it is insular and this is reflected by the fact that it is still considered a second-tier city compared to L.A. and S.F. on the international stage).

Not surprisingly, the armed forces and related industries are the mainstay in San Diego, although there's a good mix of other jobs as well.
The biggest consideration is where do you want to live in CA.

Housing costs are high in California and you have to consider transportation costs as well (California also seems to have the highest gas [petrol] costs in the US, but for you, it may seems a bargain)

Do you have a job lined up first?
Try not to stress it you do have a plan ( a list)

    location/area , the distance from Point A to B

some people work in L.A but live in the I.E. better housing cost. There is the blue line to get to work and back home with worring about paying at the pump remember what season it is check out http://www.fox11.com
You could start looking for employment in California on Monster.com

My advice on relocating to California is:

Determine which part of the state best suits your lifestyle.

Be ready to pay more than half your monthly income to rent and what's left over to fueling your car.

    Learn self defense.

    Get a post office box.

You can make the transition here by traveling light and staying at hostels while you work and look for permanent housing. They are way cheaper than hotels and safer than housing offered over the Internet.

    ps. Buy sunscreen.
San Francisco is the most UK-like city in CA. Los Angeles, with better weather, is sprawling and ABSOLUTELY requires a car. San Diego has the best weather. Finance and tech jobs in SF. Entertainment %26amp; Tourism jobs in SoCal.

    Marks %26amp; Spencer definately.
travelex is best look them up online
I changed pounds in to euros at Barclays. The rate was perfect. At Post office it was a bit less... so, I presume Post office should be good in your case
The very best exchange rate is at Marks and Spencers they deal with your exchange quick and effeciently and you get the best rate of exchange. A much better rate than anyone else that I have dealt with.
    post office.. commision free =)

I'm going to the UK tomorrow, what do you advice me to look at to see how is life over there?

I'm going there for few weeks, what do you advice me to see to get an idea of the overall lifestyle there? (not turistic stuff, just real life)I'm going to the UK tomorrow, what do you advice me to look at to see how is life over there?
The architecture I think has a big impact on society in the UK. The buildings tend to be renovated and rehabed rather than replaced as they are here in Florida. It adds a sense of stability and permanence that is missing here. I think that permeates to every area of life, even realationships. The bilsing that people live and work in have a big impact on their lifestyle and way of life. The general public seems to live iand work in smaller spaces that effects their relationships. Socialization is done in bars and their attitude to alcohol and drinking is different from here. You will see people have their lunch and a drink at lunchtime and then go to the pub after work to wind down, or go home and come back out again to the bars. Pubs or bars play a large part in the lifestyle. You will also notice there are no drive throus and a lack of fast food take aways. You will also notice that public transport is a big part of transportation over there, families in general tend to have only one car for the entire family. The transport system is good and frequent, it runs all night long and effects how peopel get around and you will see a lot more people on the streets as they wait for the bus or walk to the train or their bus stops. You will also notice that the TV has limited stations. It hink too that people there are more altruistic and I think that comes from rubbing shoulders with each other more frequently on a day to day basis.I'm going to the UK tomorrow, what do you advice me to look at to see how is life over there?
go to the big city and the small towns very different lots of historic places.
You sure you can take Real British life

Best round the world ticket (UK, Japan, NZ and Oz) ADVICE PLEASE!?

    Hi,

I'm going on honeymoon next year and we want to incorporate Japan, New Zealand and Australia (starting and ending in London). Is it best to do this on a round the world ticket? Can anyone give me some advice on the best alliance to use etc? Thanks,

EmmaBest round the world ticket (UK, Japan, NZ and Oz) ADVICE PLEASE!?
The best alliance would have to be OneWorld as that includes JAL (Japan), BA (UK), and Qantas (Oz) with probably more flight choice than the other alliances. With those three airlines you can take direct flights to the countries you mention.

As to whether a RTW or a set of flights, that all depends on dates. RTW can be more flexible but if you're only doing a small portion of what it offers, it may well be cheaper to book flights separately.Best round the world ticket (UK, Japan, NZ and Oz) ADVICE PLEASE!?
go to a specialised gap year/ young traveller agent like STA they'll give you good impartial advice and get you the best deal.

for example by leaving on the 15th aug instead of the 13th we saved 拢388 on our tickets because it's slightly more off peak - i didn't know this and only found out by going to them. the're full of tips and tricks to get the best deals

  • Schooling in Scotland UK advice please??

my daughter will be 3 on dec 17th 2007 when do i need to start looking at nurserys? and how do i find a good nursery in scotland? when will she start nursery? thankyou!!Schooling in Scotland UK advice please??
Your daughter will be funded in january 2008, and she will get 5 days at 2 and half hour sessions.

Reccomendations are normally the best way to find a good nursery, i prefer private ones to school run ones. Pop into the nursery of your choice anytime from August and ask when you fill in the form.

My daughters both where born in december also.

I also live in scotland.Schooling in Scotland UK advice please??
You should have started looking before now. I don't live in Scotland,,,,but she should be starting nursery in January.
i live in Scotland and this is the right time for nursery if you speak to your health visitor she will give you a list of nursery's.once you have the list phone them and make a appointment u can go in and the teachers will show you around and what they have to offer.you can pick whatever one you want.good luck
I live in Edinburgh, you should have registered her when she was 2 just to make sure she gets a place. Do it now, phone them and get them to send you a form to fill in, you will then have the options of morning or afternoon. You will probably get her in sometime in march next year, depending on the intake at your area.

We are thinking of moving to Canada from UK and need lots of advice!!!?

We are a family of 4 including 2 children aged 16 and 11. Our professions are a Primary School Teacher and a Bricklayer. We intend to rent a property but at this moment, we don't really know what part of Canada would be the best for us. Any other information regarding Canada would be really helpful to us. We are thinking of moving to Canada from UK and need lots of advice!!!?
    Go to http://www.workpermit.com

There you can find out if you meet the requirements for admission. If you don't the question is pointless.

It is tough getting into Canada as the required standards are high. Lots of useful information including an online questionnaire where you can check if you qualify.

Ian MWe are thinking of moving to Canada from UK and need lots of advice!!!?
I live in Canada, Manitoba, Winnipeg. Most of the people who come here, go straight to Toronto or Vancouver because they are the two big and crowded and live cities in Canada. Montreal is good too (although u can't study there because of too many distraction haha it's a live city and restaurants are open till like 4 5 am I havent been there but i heard that) poeple say u dun think ur in Canada when ur in Montreal because of too many international poeople.

you dun wanna go to Quebec because they speak French and u would be lost. and plus they dun like it to see u dun speak French. they are very prejidous.

A friend of mine lives in Ottawa (capital) and she says she doesnt feel she's in Canada at all haha alot of international poeple. but i dun know much about it.

Alberta, Calgary is the best city in Canada to find jobs right now. because of the Oil they have. my sister just moved there with her husband cuz he got a job. good pay too but expensive houses but again the salary is good so the level off. LOTS of jobs in Calgary. weather is Calgary changes all the timre because of a kinda Wind they have. but it's close to Banff which is a really nice city. alotta poeple go there to Ski.

Here in winnipeg you could have a nice start. it's a quite city. not too many people like toronto and vancouver to make it hard to compete. the only bad thing is it's VERY cold in winter. it gets up to -50 at the coldest. so if ur not ready for lots and lots of snow then winnipeg won't be ur choice. but it's called Prairies, so no mountain. it's all flat. Toronto gets cold but not as cold. Vancouver doesn't get as cold though. it's the nicest weather in canada. only it rains alot. you might find it really hard for your kids to get into the university because alotta people live there and it makes it really hard. lots of competition (both in toronto and vancouver). Other cities like Saskatoon in Saskachewan province is a small city. smaller than winnipeg. Nova Scotia is far East. I havent been there, so have many other poeple. I dun know alot about it but not too many international people go there. very little.

Edmondon is also in Alberta and 2 hours from Calgary. the biggest mall in the Canada and States is in Edmonton. It was made by a Persian family! it's a great mall! weather wise and work wise is not much different from calgary i dun think.

Sorry I dun know alot about other cities. Northern cities are very cold and you don't wanna go there. alot of Native poeple live there too.

    anyways Hope this helps.

I live in southern ontario, an hour from toronto so I can commute if I want. Peterborough to be exact. It's a cute perfect little town, and I've lived here my whole life. :)

btw if i could give u some advice, do not move right in Toronto... very bad idea.
While any place in Canada would be fine, you'll be able to find more work in the more populated areas. Look in the suburbs of Toronto, or out in the Vancouver area.
Toronto will be the right option for you , good luck
    they have a funny acsent

Relocating to UK or Europe Advice?

My family is considering reloating from the US to either:

UK or Europe. We have small children. We would like to pursue careers in Psychology and Social Services.

What would be the best places/countries to live in either the UK or Europe to work and raise children?

We are looking for good school system with relatively LOW crime. There is no such thing as no crime but there is a such thing as LOW crime in comparison to other countries and cities.

We would also like ';culture'; and cities/countries that are more Liberal and Cultural especially towards other cultures and minorities.

    Any advice or recommendations?

Greatly appreciate it!Relocating to UK or Europe Advice?
Being from where i live in UK, i don't know if there is any or many low crime cities that would be affordable.

because it's a relatively rough area, and all the places with lowest crime rates are the middle class estates with deep pocketed families.

To you question about Europe or Britain, if u relocated to europe language is a problem and a friend of mine attended a international school for british in france and he hated it and left school with close to nothing, so for raising children ur best bet is UK.

I'm not sure about culture, but places like ireland and central london are full of culture and london is already full of many minorities so you will be welcomed but house prices in london are probably at the highest than anywhere in britain.

    School systems.

Well, we have pretty good education in britain and pretty much everywhere is the same there isn't much variation.

I don't think it should be too hard for you to get a job in that around here either we have great universaties aswell for pursuing, bear in mind though britain is undergoing a recession and jobs are a killer thing to get hold of at the moment.

Forgive me, but most of my information is for England rather than Europe or the UK's counter parts to England like; Wales,Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Hope i've helped you out.Relocating to UK or Europe Advice?
Because of EU laws, people from outside the EU cannot just move to the UK/Europe to live and work. There are certain criteria that have to be met and the first one is obtaining a work permit and to get one of those you will have to possess a skill that is in high demand anywhere over here. So you may need to see if you are eligible before planning on where to live because if, and where, you can get a job, will dictate where you will live.

You can see the rules and regulations for obtaining a work permit here in the UK at this government border agency site...

    http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/workin鈥?/a>
If you want a comfortable existance in Britain, I'd look into Buckinghamshire, Reading, Brighton, Kent, Cornwall, Derbyshire. Shropshire and some of the smaller towns in rural England.

Every town and village in England has 'culture' in terms of history, churches and ancient buildings / monuments, and England's not a big place so you can drive to most parts of the country within a few hours.
There would be no language problem with UK and Eire.

In UK, the crime in small towns and rural areas are mostly non violent and the crime rate is very low.

You have a much better chance of good schools away from inner cities too.
I hate to say it, but because Europe has become multicultural, the crime rate has risen, so you'd have to find a white only area, like a rural area

I'm American and looking to get my teaching qualifications in the UK, any advice?

It all depends on whether you're going through the whole PGCE/BEd route which is university based with teaching practice etc. Or if you want to go for the school based SCITT or GTTP route, which is where you're based in school from day one and train on the job while getting paid at an unqualified teacher status. This was the route I took - it was hard, very very hard but well worth it in the end. It all also depends on whether you're going to train to teach primary (4-11) or secondary (11-18).

    Check out the following websites:

Usually School %26amp; Church communities are the best at assimilating migrants ...or get involved in a sporting or particular interest group.

What should I do about my parents?( uk) Advice from other parents would be helpfull?

a year ago and a bit ago ( when i was 15 , i am 17 now) my dad told my mum that he has been cheating for 3 months ( blatent lie been going on for much longer) and he moved in with this other woman. He was away for a few months then decided he wanted to come back, then he didnt and left and this prosess repeated itself several times. Just coming round then sleeps with my mum then he would go back to the other woman within the next day, ( or hour in one case). My mum took no notice of my needs and refused to follow everyones advice, even a trained divorce lawyer. During the time he was gone he kept on letting himself back in the house when he went to pick up my sister on a day out. I thought this to be bang out of order also what is sick within a week of him leaving he took my 8 year old sister to meet this other woman for a day out. Because im a smart person and the only person involved in this whole affair who isnt a liar ( my dad) or too young to understand ( my sister) or just plane ignorant ( my mum), this caused me much stress and depression wich lead to a nervos break down involving me getting very hurt and having to call for an ambulance, This whole saga was going on for months and it really put me in a very awkward place, because this was only a very close family issue the rest of my family didnt know the full detais or what was going on( they just thought he left and that was case closed) to step in and do somthing, my grandma was the only person I spoke to and franky she was as helpfull as a chocolate tea pot, beliving that the kids are no part of this, when everyone in their right minds know children come 1st in marrage expeshaly after one has a nervos break and attacks themself with a broken glass. I felt let down and alone, in november my dad came back ( AGAIN) and my mum knew this would emotionaly destroy me and probaly mess up my sister even more, because by this point I wouldnt of given a crap if he got hit by a car.

During his absence I told my mum I had a boyfriend called jorden and everything was all cool about it because I felt I could be open about it because my dad was gone, and she was fine with him coming around and staying but when my dad came back she told him and he didnt want jorden to stay around anymore and my mum changed her tune about the whole thing saying nasty things, eventualy Jorden was aloud to stay round again ( thank god finaly a bit of understanding at last). All of this made everything more stressing not only does my dad break the family but trys to break my realationship and breaks my collage career ( I was in such a state I had to refuse my collage placement ). While he was back it was apprent that within a few weeks he was back cheating again and my mum just lets it go over her head. Now we get to present day...

My parents went out for a meal on Wednesday this week and I was asked to baby sit my sister, I thought it was odd them going out for a meal because it never happens, but I just dismissed it as a fluke, then the day afterwards I found a credit card receipt and It was for 拢75 and I thought this is very strange because they said it was the two of them going for a drink, and I know my parents dont have friends in the area, and there was alot of alcohol orderd such as sambuca ( wich I know my parents dont drink) and gin, also if they both drank all that booze together they would of been both floored. I still thought this was very very strange and out the ordenary. But I thought hmm il remember this because It must mean somthing, its as if they were with 4 people who just wanted to get slaughterd. Tonight I heard them talking and I evesdroped, i know its wrong to but from my past experences with them everything they do seems to blow up in my face, It turns out my dad has found some way of getting my mum into group orgies and videoing it, I was literaly horrifed, it was so out the blue. I know its fine for people to get up to that stuff but my mum isnt the type to want to do that. This is a massive blow to my recovery from my nervos break, lately within the last month ive been seriously conserned about them, they are drinking excessivly, wich they never did befor, and when my dad goes to work ( I hardly sleep anymore) I hear sniffing coming from the toilet, and ive been to partys and I know what it sounds like when sombody is doing sniff. I noticed this befor in the past but I didnt really notice it much until recently when it sounded ovious. Im very worryed that they are on a slope and about to crash and burn. The orgies is one thing but if theres drugs involved I got to leave this house, we are becoming more hard up and I have a general idea where that money is going. I am in fear for my own mental health and wellbeing. I really want to and possibly have to leave this house before anything happens. What do you think I should do, Im on benifits atm due to there being no work around and my income is minimal. Im considering either telling social services orWhat should I do about my parents?( uk) Advice from other parents would be helpfull?

. -55mac24What should I do about my parents?( uk) Advice from other parents would be helpfull?
    I'm sorry!
Hi, it sounds like your parents are not caring for your sister or you. As you are under 18 still, the UK government still say your parents are responsible to care for you and keep you safe within your own home and you should be able to feel safe etc. Talk to a close family member - such as a close aunt/uncle - you need support! Tell them you are concerned that there is drug use in the house which your sister could know about or see. It sounds like your parents are trying to patch up their relationship by sexual means - meaning the 'Orgies'. Unfortunatly this isn't the best way to fix a relationship - they really need to know how you are feeling - just be blunt with them! You and your sister (didn't say how old she was?) should be firstly and foremost their top priority, not drinking to excess or taking drugs. Maybe you can call the college and enroll as they do sometimes accept students late onto courses (normally before mid october), it will give you somewhere to go to take your mind off it, be with children your own age and the college can offer counsellors/advisors who you can talk to confidentialy.

I once badly hurt myself as a child that required stiches and every time i see that scar i think how silly i was to hurt myself over my families problems. I was physically and mentally/emtionally abused as a child and neglected - with me missing most of yr6 at primary school, and most of yr7 at secondary where i had to stay home (lone parent) and look after my little sister (i was 11/12) who was also missing primary school). I look back and wish that someone told social services about us and wish i had had the confidence to tell someone but i never did. Just talk to someone! I bucked up my ideas in yr10/11 and finished with 7 C's. 4D's and 2E's at GCSE, went to college, finished top of a childcare course (easy peasy!) and am now about to start year 2 of uni (aged 19)- so chin up! there is so much you can do to help yourself - just talk to someone!

    I hope this helps!

I suggest you confide in a close relative and have them accompany you while you confront your parents about this- if you know there is illegal activity going on in your home, call the police. You and your sister deserve much, much better from your parents.

I wish you and your sis all the best-
You nee to share this with Social Services for you and your sister. Getting an adult who acts like an adult is important for you both.
Listen, you sound like an extremely mature 17 year old, you even sound like you are the parents in this senario, and i have to applaud you for this.

Practically it doesn't sound like it would work if you were to move out, financially i mean.

My advice to you would be to stay put in the house, and gather up as much PHYSICAL EVIDENCE as possible that points to them doing drugs.

You are correct it isn't right for you or your sister to be around anyone doing drugs.

If social services got involved and found evidence they could take your sister away and put her with foster parents which im sure thats not what you want.

I would say sit tight, be the adult in this situation, once you have gathered evidence, proper evidence, tell them you want to speak to them both, get them together, show them what you have found and tell them how ASHAMED you are of them.

The orgies thing, hmmm, sounds like your mum is doing it to probably keep your dad, but on the other hand she wouldn't do anything that she thought was rape, i'd hope.

Try and forget about the orgies thing, them kind of things usually happen in phases, once they've done it it'll be unlikely they do it again, if they do do it more, then both of them obviously want to do that, its not nice for you to know this, but maybe they are happy doing it and its putting some kind of spark in there relationship, i dont know.

Stay being strong, you sound very strong, BE THERE FOR YOUR SISTER, dont leave, and remember one day you will be free from your parents and have the life you want to lead, you are only 17 at the minute so it will be really difficult to financially support yourself away from the family home.

Wishing you all the luck in the world x
get you and your little sister out of there

take her to your grans or something, and tell your gran everything

sounds like your parents are gonna self destruct and its gonna get ugly
