for over a year now i have seriously considered moving to the US from the UK. to be honest, i wouldnt know where to start or how to go about doing it. i have heard it is quite difficult to obtain visas for permanent residence.
i have worked as a Customer Service trainer for the UKs biggest telecoms company for over 5 years, so ideally i would require work in that area if possible.
i was thinking of Tennessee in particular, although a friend of mine has visited Boston, Mass. and said that is a great place.
of course this is just an idea ive had for some time now, but the last few months its really been at the forefront of my thoughts.
sooo, the point of this is that i am after some advice on how to go about carrying out this move. what do i look at first? i guess work would be the most important thing.
if anyone from the States could offer advice on the best area to move to, and also how difficult customer service team leaders/trainers jobs are to come by?
if anyone who has gone about making such a move (UK-US) any advice or guidance on how they carried out the move would be greatly appreciated.
as I have said, its something that i am in the very early stages of looking at, so really any advice whatsoever would help. cheers :)I want to move to the US from the UK...advice needed!
Hi,
your question caught my eye as I'm interested in moving to the UK from the US - why don't we trade citizenship?!
Anyway, I'm from Boston and it is a great place, lots of universities, young people, nightlife and cultural institutions. But it all depends on your preferences, Boston can get really snowy and cold so if you don't mind that then it's a fun city - New York and Washington DC are the same, just bigger with more people. If you're looking for warm weather, try Miami or California - both are fun with a lot to do and more laid-back than NY, Washington DC or Boston. I went to school in Washington, DC - also a really nice city but incredibly fast-paced and stressed-out.
Working in the telecom industry/customer service you could probably get a job anywhere as it's an ever-growing industry but big cities would obviously provide much more opportunity.
I'm currently researching ways to get to the UK - it's really difficult to get a visa there too, our countries should make it easier for exchanges - it's weird that we don't have more cooperation on immigration considering our history together.
Feel free to write back if you have any questions that you think I could answer. Good luck with your move to America - welcome! I want to move to the US from the UK...advice needed!
You need a US employer to sponsor you for a visa. Unless you have at least bachelor's's degree and a specialized skill, it is unlikely that you will be able to move to the US. Your job, not to be rude, does not sound like something that there is a shortage of in the US.
But you can always try looking at US companies and applying for jobs with them.
The first thing you need to do is to contact the U.S. embassy in London to obtain the proper paperwork. Right now, illegal immigration of any sort is a hot topic here and a sore point as well. It has sparked some very interesting and often heated debate. You may also want to research online to see what type of telecom jobs are here in the U.S. As far as places to live goes, I'm partial to coastal South Carolina, but that is where I was born, raised, and live today, so my opinion in that regard is very biased.
