don't stress it. ring you credit card company again and tell them that the 拢5800.00 was a payment that was not authorised by yourselves. then tomorrow, ring the insurers and tell them that they have made a mistake and they need to rectify it.

Make sure you have good meta tags and keywords on the home page of the site for the crawler bots / spiders to read.

Make sure the content is unique and interesting. If your site sells books for example, you're going to have a hard time beating Amazon etc. in the site poularity rankings.

  • Wanted: Freelance Graphic Design advice UK only?

I'm a graphic designer here in London and have 12 years experience since graduating. My current employer is relocating out of London soon and my travel costs to the new location will be too expensive for me to continue working for the company (拢75 per week).

I've always thought about going freelance but the lure of job security in a normal job has always been too great.

I think this is probably the right time for me to take the plunge as I'm single and don't have a family to support.

I need some advice from people that have done this so I can be prepared for may be ahead. Should I register a company for tax purposes. Can I claim costs for a new computer equipment, mobile phone etc back from the tax man? I am totally clueless and would appreciate any help. Thanks.Wanted: Freelance Graphic Design advice UK only?
Contact Business Link for London and ask about their free seminars on starting in business. They go through everything that's involved in starting up, including what kind of company to set up - sole trader, partnership, limited company. They give advice on tax, national insurance and VAT.

Registering companies is only necessary if you're setting up a limited company. There's a bit more paperwork required to do that and you've more work to do at the end of the financial year. It's not huge amounts - I run two limited companies and don't feel it's a great burden.

Keep receipts for everything you buy for the business so that you can claim capital allowances against the bigger items and, if you opt to be VAT registered (which you can do even if you're turnover is under 拢68K) you can claim back the VAT on them.

Very importantly, keep all your business finance separate from your personal finance. You have to have a separate bank account for a limited company but it's also wise to do so even as a freelance/sole trader.

Think carefully about what you'll lose without the security that you talk about of a regular job. Do you have enough money to cushion yourself while you get the business up and running?

Who are your target customers and how will you reach them? Marketing can be hard for new businesses but once you've worked out who your markets are and how to target them, you're on your way.

Don't price your services too cheaply. You might pick up some work but you won't get regular solid contracts. Do you know how much your employer charges for services to clients? That's where you should be pitching your prices. It ensures you have enough to pay yourself plus cover all your business expenses.

Good luck! I'd never go back to being an employee.Wanted: Freelance Graphic Design advice UK only?
Going freelance means you really have to do three jobs: sales, the actual 'work' and admin. So for every paid hour you may well have to spend an hour getting the work in and an hour on business admin (or variations on that). So its not easy -all the other things are secondary issues...talk to a good accountant (ask friends/contacts for a recommended person) and they will help set you up.
Ok if you are starting a business you will need to think of a name and tie it in with a web address.

    Other wise if its completely a freelancing excercise check;

    i.e. lukedonaldgraphics.com/.co.uk

buy them both.In this time in history you simply can't not have an online portfolio.

The best thing with tax is to ring them, they are very helpful and will answer any questions you have in such areas.

0845 60 55 999 for self emplyment and self assessment tax issues.

Sorry if thats wrong, its the number I used last time I called.

You really don't need to worry to much about tax for atleast the first year, just register for NI 2 and let them know you are now self employed, and they will send you the form as and when.

You don't need to be VAT registered immediately, and you only have to become VAT reg. if you turn over more then 拢68,000 ish in a tax year.

If you need help with a website portfolio please let me know, I'd be happy to help. Depending on the type of stuff you do we may be of mutual benefit.

    The very best of luck.

In these economic times, I would find a less expensive vehicle and invest the difference, unless, of course you need a flash car. This is the kind of car your dad might want. At your age, I would not put more than 5000 into a vehicle.

    Alcohol advice in UK?

Alcoholics Anon is just too heavy, a bit cultish and religious for my liking. I want to talk about why I drink and overcome the hold its got over me. Iv not drunk for 3 months, and wont until I can be the master of it and not the other way round. Any ideas?Alcohol advice in UK?
I have been in the alcohol business for a long time now and have NEVER met a ';recovered'; alcoholic.

Anybody who has identified that they have an alcohol problem and managed to address the problem as you have has already done the right thing and should not, in my opinion, be looking for a way to drink again, no matter how noble their intentions. You have been dry for 3 months, which is far more than most alcoholics can manage on their own, so why waste your effort?

If you have proved to yourself and those around you that you can go without alcohol for that long and still live your life happily, just stick with it, kick alcohol for good and don't let yourself run the risk of slipping back into a dependency. Nobody who is addicted can 'master' their addiction. They will always be under its yoke as long as it is present. By stopping altogether, you have taken the ONLY way out of alcoholism and deserve a great deal of respect.

I must apologise for nearly managing to completely miss the main point of the question there. I should add that if you feel that you have managed to successfully kick the habit and would like to share your experiences with others to help yourself and them without the AA rigmorol, you should consider volunteering for some social work with alcoholic groups. Your experience and obvious strength of mind in this matter could be invaluable to somebody who is still struggling with an addiction. This would possibly give you an outlet for some of your personal feelings as well as you could discuss the difficulties in a much more personal situation.

    Good luck.Alcohol advice in UK?
do you feel as if ur an alcholic??

go to rehabs and talk ot people, set an example.....
Have you ever been to an AA meeting? There are many groups. Find one that meets your liking.

    Sober 20 years
keep up that attitude is all I gotta say. God Bless you. Alcohol is a horrible drug. Some additional counseling would be great for you, but you are already on the righ track. don't hesitate to go to AA, (if they have that in the UK?) theres nothing wrong with going to AA. Seems you've already admitted you are an alcoholic and that is the first step. Heck, I don't drink and I am pretty sure I am an alcoholic, because alcoholics have THIQ in the brains that makes them want another drink, and I have Irish in my blood ( 50%) the other half is meditteranean ( Egyptian) so I'm probably an on and off alcoholic.
    yeh i have a few.

I'm someone with a drink prob. If you accept the label alcoholic then thats your biz. Have you had a look at RR rational recovery? it's the religion free cure. (or your in the UK so) Y not SOS.

Try SOS dot org. the ';secular organisation for sobriety'; good luck, and congrats. ur doing better than me.

For other reasons, I decided to change work and built up my own company (outside UK). What you first should do is think about what you really want to do and have a look at the market. Search information about freelance graphic designer in your area to see if its a good opportunity. You can get a lot of information about taxes, company registration etc. at your local chamber of commerce. They should normally be able to give you all information or, at least, tell you where to get it.

Before taking the final decision, you should make a sort of business plan, so you'll know if its feasible or not. And you should also have enough money to be able to live without any income during at least 3 to 6 month minimum.

As your employer has not relocated yet, look it up now and if it is what you want to do, you can already make contacts before you quit.

Hope this will help you. The most important thing is to be sure of what you'll do, without hesitation.Wanted: Freelance Graphic Design advice UK only?
i can recommend you 2 excellent websites,

    http://www.getafreelancer.com/affiliates鈥?/a>

    http://www.eufreelance.com/affiliates/ed鈥?/a>

in these you can find projects, the first one has a lot of payment methods including payoneer, the second one only has moneybooker
don't register a company yet, just approach agencies and they should get you work and sort out payment. once you've decided that it is the way for you, then bother.

I've been freelance in London and there's no end of work available.. but if you're in the countryside, it might be more difficult.. as most of the work I got (by most i mean 98%) came through agencies.. but I had to go in to a certain company and work as an employee for a day/week.

if you're thinking of just taking on projects etc. you'd better have a really good list of contacts or you'll struggle

You are between the rock and the hard post.

I have a hunch that you should be networking for another position. If you are working in a large organization, try to move to another Department - working for a different Supervisor. Otherwise - look for a job in another Company.

Work Abroad Advice in UK or Spain?

My boyfriend and I, who are students in the US, would like to work next summer abroad somewhere like the UK or Spain. I have a lot of experience with the spanish language and he has some. We both have custoemer service and banquet experence and he is also in culinary school. I have seen ads for work where you pay a company to provide you with a job and possibly room and board. Are these reputible or do you have any advice/experience concerning working abroad?

Thank you!!Work Abroad Advice in UK or Spain?
It's pretty much impossible to get unskilled/service work in the EU if you are an American citizen. There is no working-holiday program with the US like there is with several other countries like Canada, because the US won't make a reciprocal agreement.

To get a work visa in the UK, you need a job offer or you can apply as a highly-skilled worker. Both require that you score highly enough on their points-based system. You can't get a job offer for a position that has enough UK applicants (like customer service), and without a degree you won't make the points as a highly-skilled worker either. Soon the UK will be requiring a Master's degree for these applicants.

    http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/…

Both Spain and the UK must advertise the position within the country first, and show that there were no acceptable applicants from the EU. This means if you want to work in the EU, you need to have a career in a needed field (like healthcare or engineering) or highly specialised skills.

Your best chance would be to study abroad for the summer, and apply for a student permit.Work Abroad Advice in UK or Spain?
Work in the hospitality trade in the UK and Spain is very limited at the moment so you would find it difficult to get work in either country. Do not pay an agency to find you work, you will almost certainly be ripped off.
To be legit you'd need a work visa/permit. Though I suppose you could work ';under the table'; so to speak at a pub or restaurant. Be careful with any agency unless you know of people who have successfully used it. They could just rob you and leave you with nothing. You may be better off finding work on your own.

Newly single mum needs some advice (Uk)?

I've recently split up with my long term partner. We have a daughter who is 15months old. I work 16hours a week as a secretary and currently living with my parents after moving out of mine and my ex's home. I was just wondering if i moved out would i be entitled to any help? Im not claiming anything at the moment and just living off the money from work. Would anyone be able to tell me if i could get any help and what it would be? Im pretty worried about all of this as ive never had to do this! Advice please :)Newly single mum needs some advice (Uk)?
You poor thing! Trying to find your way around the benefits system is a huge pain in the backside. Im no expert but i definatly thing you can claim child benefit which is something like 拢18.00 a week. I know you would be entitled to help with housing and council tax costs should you move out on your own. I'm not sure what else you may be entitled to because you are working but i am almost 100% sure you should be entitled to child tax credits and either working tax credits or income support. You can access a tax credit calculator via www.direct.gov.uk where you can also gather some information on what else you may be entitled to.

The best of luck to you and i hope it all works out well. Please dont be put off by arsey benefit agency staff or the weeks and weeks of waiting! Newly single mum needs some advice (Uk)?
hi well u should be able to go down to the local dhss they must have a legal way to help u out depending on your area this changes but as a whole the have a legal obligation to give u some kinda help and proper advice

you will be entitled to child tax credits and working tax credits

which means u may get some housing and council tax benefit

get in touch with tax credits or ur local job center plus

also u may get childcare costs if u need that

    hope it helped

    xx

    bt can you answer mine?

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
sorry to hear about the break up! hope you can sort things out

you will be entitlied to more help and benefits but im not 100% sure of what im sorry! You need to telephone Inland Revenue and explain your situation, they will tell you over the phone what help you can get!

    all the best xx
you will be entitled to Child tax credit and Working tax credit. If you are only working 16 Hours and on a low income, you will be entitled to some Council Tax and Housing Benefit too. Get a form from your local council and phone the tax credits hotline up straight away.
the best thing do is to go to the job centre and arrange an interview with an advisor there, they will be able to tell you exactly what you are entitled to. a friend of mine is in a similar position to you and she gets the following help: all of her rent paid on a private flat, working tax credit to top up her wages, child tax credits for her daughter. you will probably also be entitled to money to help with childcare whilst you are at work. don't be too worried about it, there is plenty of help and support for single mothers who are working. if you do choose to rent a place on your own, you would also have a substantial amount of your council tax paid too. xxx ps i think you can apply online for some of these benefits.

UK: I want some honest advice. If I decide to major in sociology, would I have no chance in the civil service?

To do admin you only need 5 good GCSE's so do you think its better I don't do the degree and apply for the admin position and then work my way up the career ladder? I don't want to go to uni and study something I hate, like science or math (relatives are advising me against sociology). :/UK: I want some honest advice. If I decide to major in sociology, would I have no chance in the civil service?
I worked up in the civil service with just GCSE's but I came to a halt at a certain level. Basically the sky's the limit if you have a degree...obviously you have to be quite ambitious and work hard but if I were you I would go to uni and do the degree because it gives you so much more choice when it comes to employment in the civil service.

Have you got a career course in mind? For example, if you wanted to work in housing there is a degree in housing which would give you a basic understanding of the jobs before you set foot in the workplace...

Maybe you should think about which area you'd like to work in and see if there are specific degrees in that area?UK: I want some honest advice. If I decide to major in sociology, would I have no chance in the civil service?
I think you should go to Uni, and study Sociology. You will have a blast!

When it comes to degrees, I find that having one is enough in itself..it proves you can apply yourself academically, and commit to a course of intensive study, no matter the subject.

Yes,you could work your way up ... but you will miss out on the Uni experience.
Do what you want to DO not friends and family and if you mess up you can say ok, sorry but you will have tried you chosen path

Are these moves riddled with hidden costs not included in estimates? ect. ect.Any advice when using international movers when moving from the USA to the UK?
The estimates should be complete. The only costs they cannot capture would be customs clearance charges or duties. However, the freight forwarder should be able to give you a ballpark on the duties by looking at your inventory. Of course, the inventory is not generated until they have packed your household goods. I'd make sure they are bonded and have enough insurance to cover the value of your belongings...and get it in writing...ask them for a certificate of insurance.
make sure they have insurance. we moved from Canada to turkey and we just used a fright to move every thing and then hired some movers over here to bring it to our new house. the cost in total was $3000. can dollars good luck

I am considering working for a contractor but it needs to be as a limited company. Any help appreciated. Also any accountants or book keepers who can assist please contact. Can anyone give me some advice about atrting a limited company in the UK?
Another way is to buy an ';off the shelf'; company where everything has been created for you. You can then change it's name to suit you but you have to do this properly.

Type in ';off the shelf companies'; in google and you will get loads of sites that offer the service. Can anyone give me some advice about atrting a limited company in the UK?
You need to set the Limited Company up first - you can actually do this on Companies House website fairly easily - costs 拢150. I would ask local businesses who they use for an accountant or book keeper.
As stated already ,you have two options, one to do it yourself on the web site of the Companies House or to use an agent, who will do the job for you for a fee. If you are going to work for a contractor and you are a sub-contractor, you have to apply for a CIS card which can be obtained from your local tax office.

Good Luck with your new company.

HELP!!!!!! need some advice( UK citizens only)?

i am 18 years old and about i sit my A Levels. I hope to become a doctor one day and if i try i will get the grades ther is just one thing. my mother passed away in my last GCSE year and i got mostly Bs. i know that no matter what grades i get in my A level it wont be enough will it? whats your advice?HELP!!!!!! need some advice( UK citizens only)?
Your A level results really do matter. Pick a University you would like to attend and speak to the Admissions Desk, explain your circumstances. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need - different courses have different requirements. They will also be able to be you how you can gain extra credits. Good luck.HELP!!!!!! need some advice( UK citizens only)?
Don't worry too much about the GCSE grades - you have a reason for the B's and anyway, that was 2 years ago. While universities want to see good academic record, they also understand that you grow up a lot between 16 %26amp; 18. An average student at 16 can be a diligent one at 18. So uni's don't put too much weight on GCSE results - though of course they want to see solid results, A's are not essential.

Do your best with the A levels, and have your school/college write an explanation for your GCSE results to send with your UCAS form if you are still worried about them.
You might struggle with only Bs at GCSE. It is fiercely competetive, you will definitely need three As at A level to get into a good university, they should Include either Physics or Chemistry as well as maths.

You also need to have a very good personal statement and maybe some work experience too. You have to send the form off earlier than everyone else for medicine too, ask a teacher or careers advisor for help.

I need some advice, UK only, from single working parents.?

My sister wants to get back to work she has children that are at school and one that is at home still, she gets housing and council tax benefit and everyone keeps telling her that if she goes back to work she will have no money and have to pay all her rent and all her council tax, sorry I know alot of couples will think so she should, but she is on her own and can only work part time.I need some advice, UK only, from single working parents.?
If your sister decided to go back to work then she can claim for Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. If she needs to hire a childminder then WTC will also help pay for that too. She should get 25% off of her Council Tax as a single person. As for the rent, it really depends on how much she is earning etc etc. She can get Housing Benefit but they wouldnt pay the full amount.

I am a single parent in full time work and i find it very rewarding. I can buy what i like and i know i have enough for my bills when they come in at the end of the month.

I hope this helps.I need some advice, UK only, from single working parents.?
I work full time and to be honest it all really depends on how much she will be earning. Yes she can get Working Families Tax Credit and may be entitled to Council Tax benefit and Housing benefit, but if she is going to be working part time will it be enough to cover all her out goings?

I'm lucky to be earning enough now to be able not to need any benefits as such. But while working part time, I had to study to be able to get a good paying full time job.

My own opinion is that I would always want to work - I'd go crazy staying at home all day!
agree with sneaky she will also have to work over 16 hrs per week to get these benefits %26amp; she can also claim for child care cost if it is a registerd child minder, when she applys for tax credits

No I get 1 child benefit payment and one child tax credit payment. You will get 2 every month but they are for different things.

You get one payment per couple for each.

Hope this makes senseChild tax credits?? advice, uk only plz?
If it is your first payment then you usually get two payments, one is the monthly amount that you will get every month and the other is a one off payment as the difference or a back payment.

They always pay the money then send the paper work a few days later.

Go to a plastic surgeon and expect bigger t!ts
I had a boob job in April, it all depends on the surgeon i think as to what happens ect...

On the day of my op the surgeon came to see me and did some drawings on my chest then i was taken to theatre and was under the anaesthetic for 2 hours, i woke up and i was fine, just felt sick, so i was given some medication for that. The pain was minimal to be honest.

Taking the drains out is just slightly uncomfortable, dont worry about that , you ve done the worst of it by then!!

Im thrilled with my new boobs, im having a tummy tuck next year.

    Army officer advice (UK)?

I have just been to the potential officer briefing and I've been told to think of other Corps than Intel since although I have good academics competition is high and I stand better chance of getting a commission elsewhere. I've been looking at either the Royal Engineers since I like that sort of activity, Logistics or just going all out for the Royal Welsh (i'm Welsh). I'm stuck on which to go for really, can anyone give me some helpful advice?Army officer advice (UK)?
The thing with the RLC is that it has so many elements, and therefore so many opportunities for advancement. Have you thought about EOD? Both The RLC and The Engineers have ATO's. What you dont want to do is to get yourself in the position where you can't get close to the top of the pyramid because you join a Corps or Regiment in which you could easily get stuck at Major however good you are. I can think f several good Officers I know who went through Staff College who are stuck at Lt. Col for that very reason. Not that there is anything wrong with being a Lt. Col but mighty frustrating when you watch less able Officers rise higher simply because they chose carefully in the first place.Army officer advice (UK)?
My husband is in the RLC, has had a really rewarding career and has loved every minute of it. While he didn't join as an officer, he's done 18 years now and is applying for his Commission to become an LE Officer. The RLC is one of the biggest Corps and so opportunities are plentiful and remember, once you're commissioned and in you could always look at transferring. I work with soldiers in the Armoured Corp and dissatisfaction is so much higher than anything I've ever seen in the RLC. I suggest trying to get a trade so the Royal Engineers might be worth a look too!
Think of what you want in a career and go in that direction.to be an officer you need leadership skills but you also nee to know what you are doing. The Royal engineers are a good bet
R E is a good bet if you have the quals.

The Royal Logistic Corp is also a great outfit.

My son is in the RLC and enjoys every ????? minute of it.

I am getting a UK spouse Visa and need some advice?

As long as you and your husband are in a real relationship you have nothing to worry about. The Immigration Officers conducting your interview can spot the real thing within the first few seconds.

I promise you (been there, done that) that you have nothing to worry about if you are genuine. They will not ask you anything that you can't answer confidently if you are really living together and in a long term relationship.

The only people who need to worry are the people who have married solely for the visa.

Any advice on obtaining uk visa for my future philippino wife?

get plenty of evidence, be prepared make sure she knows you and your life very well because she is the one that has to face the ECO in Manila.

Search the web there are some really good sites with info about the typ of question and the answers they dont want to hear.

use 80% natural and real gushing love and 20% business organisation and you should be looked upon as genuine. Good luckAny advice on obtaining uk visa for my future philippino wife?
The interview will be longish more than an hour, and what they are trying to establish is:

That it's a genuine marriage, and that you have accomodation and can support your wife in the UK.

It is best that you go to the Embassy as well, some things might need clarifying and you will be asked separately the question that caused the problem. Usually something simple.

Your wife will be asked for copies of correspondence from you. If you phone as well keep your phone bills and e-mails printed out.

Photocopy your passport, and all pages relevant to entry and exit from Philippines.

Copies of your bank statements for six months - preferably a year.

Copies of your wage slips for six months - preferably a year. If you have your P60 as well all the better.

Details of your accomodation in UK.

Details of money you have sent your wife/fiancee for support.

Divorce papers for all previous marriages if any.

    Marriage certificate.

    Your and her birth certificates.

    Photographs of the wedding.

Other photographs of you together, even singly in the same place.

The questions are fair for genuine couples, believe me and either party should easily be able to answer them.

The visa lasts for a year, but must be used within six months of issue. After eleven months you can go to Lunar House, Wellesley Road, Croydon, and have it extended indefinitely, again I would go with your wife. Both the Embassy and the Home Office are first class for genuine couples, and I vote both the elite government service.

Oh as soon as your wife arrives in UK register her with a doctor, and write on the form from Philippines to UK.

Also obtain a National Insurance card for her from your local DSS office, she is allowed to work immediately if she so wishes.

    I hope this helps.

Your wife must send the completed forms to the embassy with the money in payment. It takes around three months for a slot. Before then make sure she has a Filipino passport, I am afraid though that you will need a ';sworn affidavit of support'; to this end, you need to go to a Notary Public in UK for this. It will cost about 拢50 including cost of validation by Philippine Embassy in London.Any advice on obtaining uk visa for my future philippino wife?

  • I am getting a UK spouse Visa and need some advice?

I am getting a UK spouse visa and i wanted to know what kind of question will i be asked at the interview? I get nervous when i get asked a lot of questions and i kind of want to be prepared. Well i hope someone that knows can help meI am getting a UK spouse Visa and need some advice?

Uk citizen marrying indian citizen studying in uk. Can anyone advice me what the procedure is please?

if the student has leave to remain for more than 6 months then he can apply to Home Office for permission to marry. This is usually only granted to persons with over 6 months leave. Once obtained he can marry in UK and immediately after marriage he must apply on form FLR(M) for leave to remain as a person married to a person present and settled in UK. It is a fairly complex application and requires substantial documentation to support it. If this application is successful then he will be granted 24 months leave to remain after which he must apply again for indefinite leave to remain in UK. • I want to breed my female pedigree mastif any advice (UK only)?

If she's older than 5, I don't think I'd breed her at all. First, have her hips and elbows x-rayed to be sure she isn't dysplastic. You don't want to pass on those diseases. Have your vet do an exam and fecal and blood tests for intestinal worms and heartworm to be sure her health is good. Then make sure your dog and the male you select (who should be a champion - your pups will be worth more!) are tested for Brucellosis - a canine VD.

If you breed her to a top quality male from an experienced breeder, they can help you with advice and may even show up to help you deliver the pups. They can also advise you as to whether or not your female is good enough to breed and that she has no major faults that she could pass on. Expect to pay at least the sale price of one pup for your stud fee.

If you just want a pup to keep for yourself, it's a lot easier (and cheaper) to buy one than to breed your own. The pups are going to need food and shots and worming and lots of care for eight weeks. Have you got the time and energy? One of my breeder friends once calculated that she made less than $1.85 per hour after expenses! I bred one litter myself, but now I'd rather go and buy the pup I want.I want to breed my female pedigree mastif any advice (UK only)?
You first port of call should be your dogs breeder who if reputable will give you advice on her suitablility for breeding and what lines to avoid. Very few dogs are suitable for breeding so you will also have to get her independently assess, either by entering her into shows or contacting the Mastiff Breed Club and letting various breeders go over her.

As you are probably already aware, Mastiffs require to be elbow scored prior to breeding - I would also get her hip-scored and eye-tested (after all you do not want to be sued by new owners if the pups develop an genetic condition). Once she has proved herself an outstanding example of the breed then the next thing you need to do is study her pedigree indepth, looking at all the dogs in her 5 generation pedigree to assess their health and genetic status as well as their faults and attributes in regards the breed standard. You will also have to do this for the stud dog that you choose. Have a look at this link it will help you understand what to look for in a reputable breeder: http://www.dogplay.com/GettingDog/breede鈥?/a>

Also remember that as the ***** owner you are morally responsible for any pups your ***** produces for the rest of their lives - that could mean taking back an adult dog in ten years when the owners no longer want it.I want to breed my female pedigree mastif any advice (UK only)?
go to another owner who has one
do a search on ';breeding dogs'; and get abook, there is a good one called The Essential Dog Book, it tells you alot about breeding dogs and whelping.

    P.S. I am Scottish.
    Mastiff

    BACKGROUND

The Mastiff (often called English Mastiff) can truly claim an ancient heritage. Mastiff type dogs have existed since the human race began recording history, thousands of years ago. Mastiffs have been used for various purposes, but primarily as guardians of people and their property. Today they are bred as a superb companion and family dog.

    MASTIFF/BULLMASTIFF CONFUSION

Over 100 years ago game keepers required a dog with the loyalty, strength and guarding capability of the Mastiff but greater speed and agility so the Bullmastiff was developed from the Mastiff. Today Bullmastiffs are a separate breed. Overall the Mastiff is larger, heavier and longer in body than the Bullmastiff.

    AVERAGE LIFESPAN

When considering a dog, please realise that you are taking it on for its lifetime. Like many large breeds of dog, the Mastif has an average lifespan of 8-10 years.

    AVERAGE SIZE %26amp; WEIGHT

The Mastiff is a giant breed of dog. One example of the breed is listed in the Guiness Book of Records as the heaviest dog in the world. Males are generally larger than females. A full grown adult Mastiff will generally weigh between 60 and 100 kgs and in height, their head will be at approximately the waist of an average person.

    BREED PERSONALITY, CHARACTERISTICS %26amp; TEMPERAMENT

Mastiffs are loving, gentle and extremely loyal dogs. Provided they have been properly introduced, they are usually very good with children, but, as with any breed of dog, there should always be adult supervision.

Mastiffs are sensitive and crave approval and affection. They love nothing better than to be with their owners and for this reason are particularly suitable and rewarding as house dogs.

While not suitable as commercial guard dogs, Mastiffs will let you know when strangers are about. Their deep bark and massive appearance is usually enough to deter any unwelcome visitors.

Mastiffs love to please their owners but they are not a breed that will respond quickly or instantly obey without question.

    COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER PETS

By nature Mastiffs are usually very compatible with other pets, especially if they have been raised together.

    CARE REQUIREMENTS

Mastiffs are a low maintenance breed. Their short coats require only a weekly brushing and a monthly bath. They do shed hair and many slobber a great deal. For exercise, most Mastiffs love to lie about watching you exercise. However, they do need and enjoy a daily half hour walk, regardless of how big or small their property is. They do not cope well with warm weather so walking should be done in the cool early morning or late evening.

Mastiffs need very large amounts of food while they are young and growing but less as they mature. A fully mature Mastiff may not eat much more than an adult German Shepherd Dog. Fresh cool water in a large chew and tip proof container must always be available.

    PLEASE TAKE NOTE

Mastiffs are generally healthy dogs and responsible breeders take every care to ensure the long term health of the puppy you buy. However, as with most dogs, problems can occur. Large breeds grow rapidly and they can be affected by bone disorders. Mastiffs can suffer eye problems and some have a tendency to be susceptible to bloat. If you are considering a Mastiff, discuss the breed with as many breeders as possible and with your vet.

The general running costs of a Mastiff are much higher than smaller breeds. This is a big consideration e.g. a course of antibiotics for a small dog may be $25, for a Mastiff $100.

    IN CONCLUSION

If you have decided that the Mastiff is the dog for you and you are happy to have a big, strong dog in your home then contact one of the groups listed below:

    Need turtle advice.. >UK?

Well i was planing on gettng terrapins but i have no idea on what tank to get, if anyone could send a list that i could look for it would help. I need to know what tank to use how big to keep baby terrapins only 1-2 and how much its all going to cost.

    Also send me some websites..

if yuo own a terrapin can you handle it? i realize there nto that friendly becuase they get a bit nippy.Need turtle advice.. %26gt;UK?
yup, good advice on tank size. My two yellow bellied sliders are 6 years old and they're both 16cm long (shell).

They're in a 4ft tank (far too small, desperately seeking something twice the size(they're still growing!))

Filtered by an external canister filter (cost me 拢80)

    heater cost 拢15

    reptile bulb 拢15

Turtle dock 拢20 (can use bark or rocks while they're still small)

You could get smaller and cheaper for now, or pay out for stuff you're gonna have to get within four years or so anyway.

Hard work too! These guys need a complete water change and filter clean every week or they get smelly! That's 10 buckets of dirty water to syphon off and 10 buckets of clean water to bring to temperature!

Mine have never acted in an agressive way, but they do have very strong jaws and poor vision so have some times bitten my finger whilst hand feeding. They just can't see what they're biting on to. I just raise my finger a little higher and gravity encourages them to let go. doesn't hurt but I don't let my friends kids hand feed them cos their fingers are smaller and they might get scared.

They are dificult to hold as they are surprisingly strong and their long claws are sharp.

Very sweet though. I love my turtles. They come to the side of the tank twice a day to 'ask' for food. But please do consider how quickly you will need to fund and find room for 100 gall of water in your living room.Need turtle advice.. %26gt;UK?
I have one turtle, a red ear slider. He's still young so quite skiddish when I'm around. Some people have super friendly turtles that like their heads scratched.

As for a tank, I can't tell you pricing, but can give you guidelines... If you buy 1 turtle, you're looking at around a 100gallon tank. that's 48'; long by 18'; wide by 24'; tall. You don't need this right away, but will by the time it's full grown. Yes they grow quickly too.... To start a 30 gallon will do you for a little while... They basically need 10 gallons per inch of shell length preferrably. You need a really good filter. Aim for one that has twice the capacity of the tank size. You need a basking spot. I use a floating turtle dock. You'll need 2 lights, a heat light and a uvb light with fixtures to hold them. Also some sort of barrier so they can't escape... you'd be amazed at their escape abilities. You'll also need a water heater. The temp needs to be around 77degrees. and a thermometer to guage that temp. The cost will depend on the supplies you buy. I got my tank used for a really good price, but I spend $100 US on a filter (it's an XP3 canister filter). To be honest, look at your local classifieds and try and find a tank used, you'll save the most money there. Check out this website to see pics of peoples setups on the forums, as well as care sheets. www.redearslider.com

Mortgage and fixed rate advice UK?

    Hi, really need some advice...

bought my house 2 years ago, and the mortgage i took was a fixed deal for 5 years.

I really now want to move home, can i do this while im tied into this deal?

Its not about trying to get a better mortage rate or anything, I just really need to move...

    all advise appreciated

thanksMortgage and fixed rate advice UK?
It would depend on the type of mortgage that you have. If it is a portable mortgage then you can move the mortgage to the new property.

If not you would have to pay a penalty of typically 3% of the mortgage value to get out of the deal early.

You need to check the policy document of your mortgage to see if it is portable or what the penalty is for leaving early. Alternatively contact your lender who will be able to tell you the information you need.Mortgage and fixed rate advice UK?
Yes you can move, you are still tied to the 5 years deal but not to the property you are in. You need to basically move the mortgage with you. Go and speak to the bank or whoever it was you go tthe mortgage from and ask what you have to do, because each lender is different and have different charges etc. You are not tied to your property and are free to move, you just take the mortgage with you! good luck finding a new home.

  • I'm at the initial stages of planning a trip to California. Travelling from the UK. Need advice please.?

What airport should i be looking to fly to ?

Approximately how much would it cost ?

Planning to travel at the end of September / start of October.

Any general advice, as in sightseeing stuff, festivals, good website links would be well appreciated.

ThanksI'm at the initial stages of planning a trip to California. Travelling from the UK. Need advice please.?
I suggest that you use San Francisco as your base and from there plan small trips to the neighboring cities, regions. San Francisco as such is probably one of the nicest spots in California. I also recommend San Diego, although it is so far in the south. It is a nice city with a high quality of life. And then don't forget the wine regions of California... wine over there is so cheap and good compared to prices in Europe. Mind, though, that the US dollar's exchange rate is rising again.I'm at the initial stages of planning a trip to California. Travelling from the UK. Need advice please.?
Since you have lots of time to make your plans, I'd recommend looking into a vacation rental for your stay in California. I haven't stayed at a hotel in years, since I found out about vacation rentals... the cost is about the same or less than a hotel, and it's so much more relaxing to stay in a home than a crowded noisy hotel.

I've always used Owner Direct Vacation Rentals, and have never had a bad experience. Once you find the place you want to stay, they'll put you right in touch with the owner, and you can talk to them, so there won't be any surprises when you arrive.

Just go to Owner Direct Vacation Rentals page for California, here: http://www.ownerdirect.com/accommodation鈥?/a> and start browsing around the area(s) you're thinking of visiting. I bet you'll find a great place to stay!

Have a good time on your trip over here!
I went last year in June to San Francisco for 7 days to see relatives. Booked the whole thing via travelocity ( http://www.travelocity.co.uk/ ). Cost around 拢1500 for the whole deal (flight, motel, car hire and spending money) but yours may be cheaper because of the time of year and the fact you can book the flight well ahead and take advantage of super apex fares. Mine was a last minute thing and sorted within a couple of days. If it's your first time there I'd recommend the San Francisco Bay area over LA. Used to go to LA a lot on business and it's OK if you know the ropes but not a great introduction to CA.
If you have the budget for an ';open jaws'; itinerary, I'd suggest flying into San Francisco and working your way down to San Diego,

Include the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey on your list of places to visit.

The store owner said you can shoot Pheasants with it, did he indeed. WE DO NOT SHOOT GAME BIRDS WITH AIR WEAPONS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.

Birds? Did this patron of field sports mean corvids, that's crows, rooks, jays and magpies? I suspect blackbirds and hen harriers!

You suspect chinese import is not power full enough for rabbit either.

You should enquire about a 12ft/lb weapon. Check out the Air Arms, BSA, Webley, HW, Daystate and Theoben websites.

May I also point you in the direction of the BASC good sporting practice code.Air rifle advice uk ?
air rifle power in the uk is measured in ft/lbs, 12ft/lbs being the maximum legal power of an air rifle unless you acquire a firearms certificate. An air rifle is not a suitable tool for pheasants and although they can be taken with a clean headshot they are not humane. I suggest you apply for a shotgun certificate if you wish to shoot pheasant, these are easy to attain provided you have no criminal record. With an air rifle at the power of 12ft/lbs you will however be able to shoot pigeons, rabbits, rats etc provided you are within around 40 yards
You need an absolute minimum or 5.0fpe* at impact with a perfect head shot to take a rabbit.

*IMO, for a clean, humane kill on rabbit, the minimum should be no less than 6.0fpe %26gt;The 5.0fpe comes from charts used by professionals.

    %26gt;%26gt;I have a 7.5fpe rifle%26lt;%26lt;

That would be the equivalent of a 650fps - .177 caliber air rifle shooting 8.0gr pellets - You would only be able to hunt at very short range

To compare, a 12.0fpe rifle would shoot the same 8.0gr pellet at 820fps and you could hunt small game out to around 40 yards

    820fps - 8.0gr = 11.9fpe

I agree with ';Linda';, both in that you need a more powerful rifle, and that the Feinwerkbau(FWB) 124D is an incredible rifle.

Sounds fine to me. You'l get a clean kill at 20-40 mtrs with that. Head shots only though don't go maiming and always get permission from the landowner.

As the law stand you can only shoot in the confines of your own land,at a club or other land with written permission.

Never point it at anyone. Keep it in its case when not in use. Or you risk having a gun-ho ARV unit turning up at your front door.
is it a 22 or 177 coz a 22 might take it out but i dunno ur aim would have to be very good and ud have to be close no way with a 177 that is no where near powerful enough. animals are pretty tough and if u r a true hunter u have to kill the animal out right and not leave it to die of infection because that is a waste of meat an life
you have to be 18 , the maximum ft/lb is 12 ,above this you need f.a.c. from the police , very dificult now. f.w.b. are the best.this is not very powerful , get a better riffle.
yes, it is powerful enough, but i would stay under 20yrds for the bunnies and pheasants(head shots only) , a little farther for the birds!
