What sort of things are required when starting a business? What tax info do I need for shipping items out of the uk and into the rest of Europe?
I want to make sure I am honest with everything, please give me links and details for tax and anything else i need to consider. My business name is registered, what else do i need to do?
Thanks !!I'm in the process of starting my own business here in the UK and need to get the right legal advice etc?
Actually at startup you don't need much. To register for VAT you just phone and ask your local VAT office and they will send you a form. As you will be paying VAT but not charging it you should go on monthly returns rather than quarterly because that will get your VAT rebates earlier.
Technically you can ask suppliers to supply you with goods for export zero rated providing they are delivered to your export packers but not to your own warehouse. In practice, though, most suppliers don't like to do that so it is easiest just to pay the VAT and then reclaim it on your VAT return.
You need your stationary and your invoices should include your VAT number when it has been allocated. All your stationary should have your company registration number if you are trading as a limited company.
The directors or partners name should be on your stationary.
You don't need to appoint accountants or auditors or even prepare accounts until the end of your first financial year but you have to keep books (can be on computer).
You need employers liability insurance if you have staff. Public liability if you have staff working outside. You need to open a PAYE scheme for yourself as well as your staff unless you ar a sole trader in which case you can account for your pay annually but it still must be paid in your books weekly or monthly or your allowances will not apply because they are calculated on pay per month, not pay per year.
For selling abroad what you need depends on the commodity and payment terns but it is usual to issue a pro forma invoice at the sale time but a commercial invoice at payment time.
Terms of payment can be, Letter of Credit, Sight Draft, Telegraphic Transfer, Bankers Draft or cash.
If you have any specific questions email me.I'm in the process of starting my own business here in the UK and need to get the right legal advice etc?
There is a group called Business Link which is a government run support for all new businesses, there are local consultants throughout the country. They will give you advice on all aspects of setting up your new business and after a consultation will send you a full report of what advice has been given, with all the relevant addresses and links. This is a free and unbiased service, I have just set up my own business and have found them very helpful, they can also tell you about grants that maybe available.
You need to contact a good low cost accountant, try these they worked for me and can give you all the advice you need, and will guide you through every step
