Can any one give me good advice on automatic transmission cars in the uk,?

due to medical reasons with my hands and wrists i am unable to drive manual, yes i have tried but due to pain and swelling i have been advised to try automatic, any advice on repair/maintenance prices, reliability, and any other usefull info would be greatCan any one give me good advice on automatic transmission cars in the uk,?
Automatics are reliable but you have limited choice of car and they are a bit more costly when things go wrongCan any one give me good advice on automatic transmission cars in the uk,?
Automatic transmission is bliss to drive. As with all mechanical parts on cars, maintainance is the key. I have a Volvo 240 auto with spaceship mileage, this car has covered half a million miles, the gearbox has been serviced every 30,000 miles, never let me down, changes smoothly and when it should. I would recommend auto to everyone. Good luck in your search.
well i drive a toyota yaris auto and i simply love it. i dont know about all auto's but my gears include:

P for parking

R for reverse

D for driving

N for neutral

1 %26amp; 2 useful when you want quick response, or for engine braking on a steep hill.

Frankly speaking, i've never needed 1 and 2, dont feel as though they are ever needed!. but for driving all you do is put it in D and off you go untill you get to your destination and park, which you use P for!

About repairs not sure, i've had my car for almost a year and not needed repair, but will find out soon as the cars due mot and service soon!
HELLO

I DRIVE A VAUXHALL VECTRA 2 LTR AUTOMATIC

FOR THE SAME REASONS

THEY TEND NOT TO BE THRASHED AS BOY RACERS WANT MANUAL GEARBOXES

LIKE ANY NEWISH CAR THE POWER ASSISTED STEERING AND SERVO BRAKES WILL REDUCE THE PREASURE REQUIRED SO REDUCE PAIN.

IF YOU LOOK AT AN AUTOMAC GEAR SELECTOR IT NORMALLY GOES

P PARK

R REVERSE

N NUTRAL

D DRIVE

3 THIRD GEAR

2 SECOND GEAR

1 FIRST GEAR

THE NUMER OF GEARS SHOWN IS 3 PLUS 1

SO MINE IS 4 FORWARD

SOME WILL SHOW 2 GEARS PLUS 1

THAT WILL HAVE 3 FORWARD

SELECT ANY FORWARD GEAR (D321) AND THEY WILL

ALWAYS START IN FIRST

NORMAL USE LEAVE IN DRIVE

IF TOWING OR GOING DOWN STEEP LONG INCLINE SELCTING 3 WILL NOT LET GEARBOX GO HIGHER THAN

THIRD GEAR SAME WITH 2 AND 1IF YOU NEED TO GO SLOWER

ON MINE I HAVE A WINTER DRIVE BUTTON

THIS TELLS THE CAR TO START DRIVING IN SECOND GEAR AS IN DRIVE IT WILL ALWAYS START IN FIRST

I ALSO HAVE A SPORT BUTTON THIS TELLS MY CAR TO CHANGE AT JUST UNDER 4000 REVS INSTEAD OF 2750

YOU ALWAYS PARK AND SELECT P, THIS LOCKS THE GEARBOX ON FAIRLY LEVEL GROUNDND YOU DONT NEED THE HANDBRAKE

YOU WILL LOSE ABOUT 10 MPH ON TOP END THAN A MANUAL GEARBOX

THEY TEND TO BE RELIABLE AND NOT MUCH DIFFERENT ON SERVICE CHARGES AS FLUID LEVEL CHECK IS ONLY PART ON SERVICE

THEY ARE NORMALLY AN EXTRA ON NEW CARS SO ARE FEWER THAN MANUALS SO MAY COST A COUPLE OF HUNDRED POUNDS MORE THAN NON AUTOMATIC TO BUY

IN THE OLD DAYS YOU HAD TO GO FOR A BIGGER CAR TO GET A DECENT AUTOMATIC GEARBOX YOU MAY HAVE TO GO

I GOT MY MUM TO TRY ONE FIRST BY HAVING A HIRE CAR FOR THE DAY

IT WAS HIRED IN MY NAME AND SHE WAS NAMED DRIVER WE THEN WENT TO A BIG SUPERMARKET CAR PARK FOR HER TO TRY IT FIRST THEN A SHORT TRIP ON THE ROAD

THAT GOT HER USED TO THE CAR BEFORE DRIVING ON PUBLIC HIGHWAY

SHE NOW HAS AUTOMATICS

I CAN WALK ABOUT 15-20 MTRS

I CAN DRIVE FROM PLYMOUTH TO PORTSMOUTH

AS SOON AS I GET IN MY CAR I GET FREEDOM

TRY AND GET ONE WITH ELECTRIC DOOR MIRRORS ON BOTH SIDES AND ELECTRIC FRONT WINDOWS, THE REAR ONES DONT COUNT UNLESS YOU GIVE FRIENDS LIKE YOURSELF A LIFT

SORRY FORGOT TO SAY THAT ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS CHECK THE FLUID REGUALLY

STICK IN PARK AND SLOW ON THE BRAKES
