Advice on wild birds in a UK garden?

I've moved into a new house in the London area with woods at the back, and have put bird feeders out, but so far have not seen any small birds such as robins, blackbirds or bluetits. So far only 1 pigeon, 2 magpies and 3 squirrels! Any thoughts on why this might be?Advice on wild birds in a UK garden?

We have feeders in our garden, ( we live in a very wooded area) the birds at this time of year are moulting so they do not fly to far try waiting a few more weeks they should come then, ours are eating us out of house and home, especially the marsh and willow t-t's hope you have lots of fun watching them. If you have squirrels, the birds you want to attract will be a bit reticent to come out at first. Also, squirrel proof ground feeders will attract some types of birds. I'm not sure about what time of year is best to attract, but the bbc are really good on stuff like this, as are the RSPB. It takes time to get birds comfortable in your garden as they can't protect themselves, so please be patient! (Although saying that, I've been here four years and magpies squirrels and pigeons are unfortunately my main visitors!)
It's not the right time of year to attract Robins, Blackbirds etc. They are still feeding from the berries on the trees. Try the website www.livefoodsdirect.com and buy live mealworms. Takes a while to entice the birds but Robins, Blackbirds, Starlings and sparrows now eat me out of house and home!

I have a Blackbird that comes into my house to find his mealworms!
give them a little time, robins will turn up in a few weeks, also by march/april 09,your garden will be bumping with wildlife, patience my deario patience.
Hi Suzita,

Probably because Fall is in the air My Friend. What until Spring time next year. There will be plenty of birds to feed and see.
