Driving UK to Paris, should we stay in a hotel north of city and commute in? Thanks for any advice?

My advice is not to stay in the rather torrid Paris suburbs but to take the Eurostar train from London St Pancras to Paris and stay in the centre of Paris. Eurostar will sell you a train/hotel package; the centre of Paris is beautiful; most of the sites you wish to visit will be within walking distance or there is an excellent Metro service and good suburban trains going out to places such as Versailles.
