Benefits advice please? UK only?

i am awaiting a reply for my applicate for job seekers allowance after being paid off my work. my husband has recently found out he too is being paid off next week. What can we claim benefits wise in the mean time? i have been applying for jobs as soon as i was told about being paid off and my husband is already seeking employment. Obviously due to the current financial crisis there isnt many jobs anywhere. In the mean time what can we do? we have a 6 month old baby and we currently pay all of our council tax and rent. My baby gets 拢20 a week child benefit and 拢21.65 tax credit. From next week this will be the only money coming into our home. Any advice would be great! We have never been in this situation before and therefore have no idea what we are best doing. Thanks (please no smart comments, when we planned to have a baby both our jobs were secure, but just now nobodys job is secure anymore). thanks againBenefits advice please? UK only?
call your local council and tell them u need to put in a claim for housing benifit and counciln tax benifit. they will pay your housing and council tax in full as long as you are both out of work. if one of you gets a job, they will pay some of it depending on how much you get paid.

claim jobseekers allowance... contact your job centre. both of you will be entitled to full job seekers as long as you dont have more than 拢4000 in savings,.... if you have 拢16000+ in savings you wont be entitled to any help.

get on the phone to tax credits (08453003900) and tell them whats happened. u will be reduced your working tax and childcare help, but will still claim child tax, and child benifit.

if you were a single parent you would be entitled to income support. but, as you are not, it means a trip to the job centre every 2 weeks to proove you are activly seeking employment.

remember when u find employment, you must tell the job centre and tax credits straight away... not only to make sure you get your claim for workiing tax in asap, but also to ensure you get your childcare costs covered (they pay 75% of the total cost for you)

good luck xBenefits advice please? UK only?
hi i feel for you really i do, you are intitled to a range of different benefits, some of which may be, income support, child tax credits, housing and council tax benefits, go to your local job centre and ask to talk to someone, they will be able to tell you exactly what benefit you could get and also help you look for other jobs that may be available in your area.

have a look on there website

www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk

they really are the best people to ask.

good luck i hope everything works out for you xxx
you can claim housing benefit and council tax benefit. youl be able to make a joint claim for jobseekers allowance. youl need to make these claims straight away, we had to wait nearly 6 weeks to find out if my partner was entitled to anything and he wasnt, because i was on maternity allowance. if you make a claim and they dont get it sorted out for you and you need money you can apply for a crisis loan from them! best of luck.
Get yourself down the local DSS office (or whatever they call it these days).

They will help you with all the forms you need to fill in for Job Seekers Allowance, Income support, Council tax benefit, housing benefit etc etc
Speak to your local Citizens Advice Bureau or (better still) go to see them.
Income support
If you call the council for advice expect to be given different answers by different people. After all there are so many variables, and frankly the council don't like giving money out without a fight. Your best bet is to go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau... they are much more impartial and will be able to tell you what you are entitled to. It is much easier going to the council saying you want x, y and z rather than hoping they will tell you that you might or might not be eligible for x, y an z. Hope that made some sense.... contact your CAB, best advice.

Good luck with the job hunting!
I know exactly what you are going through, the same has happened to me and my partner and we have a child too. You should be able to claim JSA as a family, I'm not sure about Income Support we were told that is for lone parents, and we could only claim JSA. You need to ring your local job centre as soon as your partner has finished work and tell them your current situation. It will be between 拢150 - 拢200 a fortnight. Ask your local council office for a housing benefit form asap, they will pay your rent (or most of it depending on the size, how many bedrooms etc) and they will pay all of your council tax. They will probably be pretty busy with a lot of people who have been made redundant and are in the same boat as you, so I would advise you to ring them everyday and chase your application, when they pay you it should be backdated from the date you applied. Hope this helps xx
